FAU Accelerated BSN 2010 - questions

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello, I don't know if there is already a thread for those applying for FAU ABSN May 2010. I just completed my application! Does anyone know if they invite you in for an interview? I know the deadline is the end of Nov, does anyone know when they typically let people know if they got in? I didn't see any letters of recommendation required - I didn't miss that, did I? Hoping to get in. Just have to finish the rest of my prerequisites and cross my fingers.

After submitting the application to FAU and FAU nursing, did anyone get anything confirming that they had received everything? I thought I would receive an acceptance to the main FAU campus before they even start considering you for the nursing school. I haven't heard a thing but I am pretty sure they have what they need.

I averaged a 93% on the HESI. Whew.

I actually called the College of Nursing on Thursday. We will be hearing after November 30 (they said probably in the first 2 weeks of December or in the beginning of January) if we are missing any transcripts. So if your transcripts haven't arrived yet don't worry. You should hear soon from the university that you've been accepted, that process didn't take too long. If you don't hear by the end of this week though I'd call just in case; that's probably something you want to have finished before the Nov. 30 deadline!!

I just wish March would get here already so we can all find out if we got in!! Good luck to everyone and hopefully we'll all be meeting each other in a few months!

Well, I got a welcome packet saying that I was admitted into the university, so far. I also got an email yesterday asking for proof of Florida residency.

That's it. I have two prereqs to still do, which will be done by May 1, but I don't need to take them if I am not going to get into the program. I wish I knew, so I could know whether or not I need to sign up for the two classes.

i know this thread is kind of old, but the only information i've recieved from FAU was information i solicited. although their page says they'll inform you of necessary information (i.e. missing transcrpits, needed prereqs, etc.) they don't seem to stand by this statement. also, it has been nearly impossible for me to get anyone on the phone. e-mailing maureen has been my best bet, although she seems hurried and irritated.

At any rate, im pretty sure post bach prereqs dont get factored into the decision as per fau's page. with the amount of applicants they can cut it down to just degree gpa's and entrance exam scores (hesi). i agree that last years cohort's stats should be posted so we're not just shooting in the dark, but i guess that would be a waste of time for fau.

i scored an average of 96% across the four scores we needed for entry and my undergrad gpa was a 3.78. who knows how many ppl 'know someone' and how few ppl they're accepting this year b/c of budget cuts. plus there's always the factor that many are going back to school for the medical field since the economy is proving other degrees useless.

wow. that was depressing. sorry all. and good luck everyone... keep fighting for your goals, we'll all get there one way or another =)

I got an e-mail from Maureen Brooks at the end of Dec asking me for my Fall semeseter pre-requisite grades/ transcripts. It was encouraging to get any sort of response or communication, although it probably doesn't mean anything. I HOPE they strongly factor in the pre-requisite grades because otherwise I'll have no hope of getting in with my undergrad GPA. I just want to know now if I am in or not!! Excited and nervous.

actually i was wrong. i just looked on fau's page again and found what i had initially read:

"The minimum 3.0 GPA must be from your Bachelor's degree alone. Courses that you take after graduation will not raise the GPA from your Bachelor's degree. If your GPA from your Bachelor's degree alone is less than 3.0 you will not be eligible for the Accelerated Program. You may consider the BSN Traditional program, which also requires a GPA of 3.0, but allows credits taken after your Bachelor's degree to be calculated in your GPA. "

so apparently prereq's are considered, just not calculated into your bachelor's gpa.

that's good news!

I havn't applied but I have a few basic questions about the accelerated BSN program at FAU. Do they only admit in May, and not the fall? Does anyone know about the HESI scores they are looking for?

As far as I could tell they only admit in May. They are looking for Math, Grammar, Vocab and Reading Comp HESI scores.

I applied for the summer 2010 accelerated nursing program and I received a letter of acceptance today. My stats are I have a Bachelors degree from UF with a GPA of 3.8 and I scored in the 92% on the Hesi. I am still undecided if I want to attend the program because I am waiting to hear back from UM and FSU. But I hope this helps those of you with concerns and hopefully other people who get admitted post here as well.. Good Luck to everyone!!!

i got in too! i read my acceptance e-mail last thursday and then did a little dance in my apartment. im thrilled... CONGRATS to you! did you accept? i just picked up my background-check papers... we start so soon, i can't wait.

I just want to know if you have some information about people that were admited to the accelerated Nursing program without meeting all the criteria. This is my situation: I just took the HESI exam. My final scores were: Grammar: 88%; Reading: 93%; Vocabulary: 76%; Math: 98%; and the total score was 88.87%%. I know that FAU requires at least 80% in each section. I just want to know if I still might be considered for the one year accelerated program. I have strong compensating factors. My GPA for my undergraduate is 3.88. I finished a MBA in FAU a year ago, with a total GPA of 3.694. As per the prerequisites my GPA is 3.75. I Just want to know if this is still worth it to apply, or if you think I should consider other alternatives based on previous statistics of the people that have been admitted in the past. My first option has always been FAU since I am a previous graduate student, and I love the school. Unfortunately, this seems that I am not meeting the criteria to be considered for admission since my vocabulary section was under 80%. I would like to know if I still might have chances based on my background, or if FAU disregards my application since I do not meet all the requirements. do you know of any student or classmate that was admitted without meeting all the criteria?

I would appreciate if anyone can help me with this

Tank you very much!
