FAU Accelerated BSN 2010 - questions

Published

Hello, I don't know if there is already a thread for those applying for FAU ABSN May 2010. I just completed my application! Does anyone know if they invite you in for an interview? I know the deadline is the end of Nov, does anyone know when they typically let people know if they got in? I didn't see any letters of recommendation required - I didn't miss that, did I? Hoping to get in. Just have to finish the rest of my prerequisites and cross my fingers.

Hi! I am applying as well for the Accelerated BSN May 2010 program. There is no formal interview, nor do you need any recommendations. There isn't even an essay this year. Acceptance will be entirely based on your pre-reqs as well as your HESI score. I have been reading the other boards and from the sounds of it, we won't hear until early March.. which is extremely upsetting..I will be finished with my pre-reqs by December..and will be sweating this one out until then.. Meanwhile I should be hearing from another program any day now that is a traditional program and I will be entering as a junior...I will probably transfer if I find out I got into FAU..I don't know how the application pool looks this year..or how you can possibly compare individuals based on grades alone...some courses and schools are harder than others..we will see I guess....

I thought they looked at more than just grades, as opposed to other schools around here like MDC which goes strictly on GPA. But I guess not. I 'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best!

I know..this year because of the number of applicants..they took away the essay portion..so really all that is left is what schools you have attended (transcripts), your GPA from the previous institution(s), your pre-reqs, and your HESI score...which is all numbers...A number game...I am hoping they look at the bigger picture with the narrow scope they have...Good luck!!!!

Hey! I also applied for May 2010 at FAU. I have heard the same things as the above posters about admissions reqs...just grades and HESI scores. I did read on a post from last year that we might hear in February, but still, that's too long to wait! Good luck to you guys, hope to see you in May!

Do you think that they place much emphasis on undergraduate degree GPA? I hope not. I know there is a 3.0 minimum which I am above, but barely. But then did well on the Hesi and all my pre reqs. Hoping they only look at the recent things.

Hey, I am also applying for the May 2010 program. Unfortunately, we don't hear back from them until March, which sucks for me because I am relocating from NJ and have no idea if I should plan to move in April or August, depending on which school I get into. I have spoke to a lady in the nursing department and she told me that the nursing admissions people will base acceptance into the program on our grades, HESI exam scores, and number of spots. She wouldn't tell me how many students will be in the program, but I am hoping that there is enough room for me since Barry is full for January and accepted me for their traditional program. Hope to see you in May!

The HESI is no longer being offered until next year at FAU. I wonder does this mean no more applicants even if you take it at another school and have the school procter the test.

I'm pretty sure you can still apply. The application deadline is November 30. I took my HESI at another school and sent my scores. You just have to get it approved with the testing center at FAU first.

I have also applied. What do your HESI scores look like? My GPA in my prereqs is only a 3.7, but my HESI was a 94%.

Mine also average out to 94%. I would think 3.7 GPA is still competitive, given that they can only go off of those 2 items. I know they list the minimums on the website but I wish they published the average GPA and HESI scores of students they accept! Anyone know what that is?

Yeah I sure was until I forgot you have to be done with prereqs by May 1, I wont be done until May 10. Far as summer programs go, UCF and UNF are the only two I am looking at now shucks maybe a New York school I have to start studying for the TEAS. If I bomb it I will just consider USF my alma mater for Fall 10. Good luck @ FAU. My undergrad is 3.37. currently a prereqs 4.0 may end up a 3.833 after this semester.
