Debblasko 73 Posts Sep 9, 2014 Hi everyone! I am a little new to this and was hoping to gain some insight from all of you. I finished my bachelors in Psychology and then decided to go into nursing. I pretty much looked up all the application info on my own with very little guidance. Its a bit overwhelming! Anyway I submitted the application for the January 2015 start date and really hope I get in.How can I calculate my prerequisite GPA? I see that NursingCAS calculates a bunch of different GPAs for me but which one is the prerequisite one? Is it the same as the natural sciences GPA?Also, I've heard the program is fairly competitive so I'm wondering if theres anyway to figure out what kind of chances I have? I just don't want to get my hopes up and I'm not someone that does well with patiently waiting. Good luck to everyone!!
pipmunk 77 Posts Sep 9, 2014 Hi Debblasko, NursingCAS spits out out ton of different GPAs, but FAU seems to do their own calculations (according to their website) of what they consider a prerequisite GPA. Last year, they said people had average pre-req GPA of a 3.9. Check the FAU application criteria, they go into more detail about what they look at.
Debblasko 73 Posts Sep 9, 2014 Thanks pipmunk, Do you have any idea how it works if I haven't completed all of the prerequisites yet. I spoke to an academic advisor who said its fine that I haven't completed them all as long as I do by December. But how does that impact the admissions process? (Im taking A&P 1 with lab, Microbio with lab and College algebra this semester. Everything else is already done.).
pipmunk 77 Posts Sep 10, 2014 This is the first year they are transitioning to the new January starting date. Before, they expected you to have the prerequisites completed before the application deadline. This year they look like they are allowing people to submit final transcripts to confirm that they completed the prerequisites by December. I'm taking two prerequisites this semester so I hope they are more lenient this year!
cgonz067 10 Posts Sep 16, 2014 Hello everyone!! I have a question regarding the dreaded NursingCas. I submitted my application before deadline and all transcripts show received on NursingCas transcripts tab but when I click on GPA it shows nothing. Is anyone's showing any GPA's yet? I'm really anxious and wondering when we will start to hear back from FAU. How will they communicate with us? Through our personal email?
Debblasko 73 Posts Sep 16, 2014 Hi cgonz067, I don't know anything about how or when we will be hearing back from FAU. But the way it works with our GPA calculations is once NursingCAS receives our transcripts they have to verify them. They also compare it with the courses you imputed manually and then calculate a few different GPAs. Once i submitted all my transcripts it took about a week or two for the GPA calculations to show. So as long as you submitted your transcripts on time you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I'm also so anxious to hear back!
pipmunk 77 Posts Sep 16, 2014 1. In order for GPAs to appear, they have to be verified in NursingCAS. That process takes a little while to be calculated by their computer system. 2. FAU will email us regarding the interview dates in October. I don't know if you have an FAU email account but if you do keep an eye out on both accounts.
CSW84 38 Posts Sep 17, 2014 If you call Nursing CAS they may be able to speed up the GPA verification. The same thing happened to me. I waited about a week, then called, and they processed it right away. Good to know we will hear in October. My heart jumps every time I get an email from FAU.

ScrubsLove 37 Posts Sep 26, 2014 According to the website, interview date is October 25, 2014. I haven't heard anything about when they will notify us about interviews. I have just been obsessively checking my email!
