FAU 2015 ABSN Applicants

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Applications are open for FAU's January 2015 enrollment date! With just over 4 months until the deadline and 8 months to the start of the program, now seemed like as good a time as any to start a forum to ask questions, relay information, and support possible future classmates.

To start off, I was wondering if any one knew if they normally offer a ABSN program that begins in the Spring. I had only heard of admittance to the Summer semester at the beginning of May.

Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks Amandinator makes me feel more at ease..

I'm curious to know what FAU considers a competitive TEAS score? I took mine two days ago and ranked 85% with a score of 77. Not really happy about score. I did great in reading and science but absolutely bombed math so bad I wont say what I got!! My prereq science GPA is so far 3.8. Just missing my final grade for AP2 which will get in the next couple of weeks (hoping its an A). I got all my eggs in one basket (FAU) and im nervous!! Any info is welcomed and appreciated!!

If you look in past forum they might be long but contains a lot of information, former applicants I can tell you have had TEAS score much much higher then that. You should reconsider taking it again, I believe you have to just have a thirty day gap between test. In my honest opinion the two test section you must score the highest in should be the math and science section, but overall I believe a lot of the applications in last pool had ranked in the 99th percentile. . Extremely competitive FYI no joke. And that only gives you a foot in if they invite you for an interview, then your faith depends on two faculty member. I did what you did and placed all my eggs in one basket, one of the biggest mistake I had done. I got an invite to the interview and I felt I did extremely well in the interview other students in my group complemented me after the interview on how strong they felt my interview was and how I presented myself well . . . But the decision was not mine if I got accepted or not and unfortunately got denied, I was upset for a day, but I figured everything happens for a reason and perhaps that wasn't my destiny, nor the destiny of a lot of other students who had applied year after year there. Luckily for me and a lot of other applicant because FAU application process happened so early in the year, after we found out We got denied We still had time to apply to other schools. And when I mention destiny, I really do mean. It before applying to FAU I had never heard of the school where I got accepted to nor did I know the type of work they do, but after I moved on from FAU I was able to look for other baskets to put my eggs in and found the school I got accepted to, I remember how I felt when I applied, how much I felt I wanted it just like FAU, but for me, with this particular school the feeling was different. I actually visioned a different path for my education with this university, one that I never knew about! My opinion to you, I wish someone had told me, don't limit yourself to just one school. Research more schools, retake your TEAS, and apply to other schools. All the universities (state/public) literately get like 300+ applicants with only about 40 seats available for each term. Don't put yourself in my situation and stuck after the one school you apply to denies you, it sucks and I don't want to see no one in that situation. If I had opened my up opportunities at the beginning to other schools, I could have started during the summer session and not have to wait to start in the fall, but I'm not complaining lol. Anyways good luck to you and please do apply to more school and try state/public first (only) and FYI in south florida that's only FAU and FIU, so not much options down here. Don't know what your situation is like but do what's best for you. Once again good luck!

hey can you share the other school youre currently attending please. I really want to start school and realized that fau teas score need to be in my tomorrow aug 1

If you are interested in the accelerated BSN most schools begin summer term and begin taking applications in january..FAU is one of the only ones that begin January also take into account that if you have a Bachelors already many schools will only allow you to apply to their Accelerated program. The most important is to read and re-read all the instructions online for each program and if possible give them a visit! :)

I just took the TEAS today! The math section was not too hot. Honestly, I don't know if the new January start date is a blessing or a nightmare. The competitiveness of FAU's applicant pool is daunting enough. I'm not sure how the school will handle the transition and the new deadline for completing pre-requisites.

I would still apply.. You have got nothing to loose other than your sanity hehehe!! Maybe because is a transitional period the applicant pool is smaller and/or less competitive. Try and stay positive. If we do not get accepted then moving on.. There would be many more accelerated programs available starting summer 2015. One never knows..you might be what they are looking for :)

I applied but I'm worried about my previous GPA. My GPA from my first bachelor's degree wasn't great. However, I've gotten all A's in my nursing prereqs and every other course I've taken since going back to school. If you only consider the nursing prerequisites then my GPA is around 3.8 or 3.9. I scored in the 99th percentile on the TEAS too. Anyone know if you previous GPA matters as much as your nursing prereqs?

The cumulative GPA that they use in admissions decisions is based on the NursingCAS calculations. This includes every course you have ever taken in undergrad if I'm not mistaken. That number must be above a 3.0.

Thank you pipmunk! My cumulative is over a 3.0 but I hope it's good enough! I'm so anxious already!

Do you think FAU ABSN will make an exception to their TEAS exam deadline (Aug. 8th)? I plan on taking it this week and there application deadline is not until September 2. I left them a voicemail but have not heard anything back. Thanks.

Hi hughhugh,

Definitely try calling or emailing them again. There is not way to know what they will accept.

Today's the deadline! I'm so super nervous, gotta keep busy in September so the wait doesn't kill me. Good luck everyone!
