FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

Published

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Titers should be sufficient if you don't have documentation of childhood vaccinations. Varicella, Hep B, and MMR should have been completed during childhood. Make sure your tetorifice is a full Tdap (not all include the pertussis). Also, looks like the two-step TB test will be required, so be sure to tell your healthcare provider of this when you go. Would have been nice to know when I tried to get this done ahead of time. Lol

You should've walked up on the stage at orientation, announced you're the person we all know as 'Quendi,' and enjoy the subsequent wave of applause and adoration. Thank you.

Lol. I could talk about my many hats! -waves hat frantically-

Don't worry, I'm just a fellow applicant who is way too type A for her own good. Hence all the answers to these questions that I have obsessively researched. :)

I called FAU and was told I need to attend a Transfer Student Orientation to lift some holds on my account. Did anyone else have to do this as well?

I haven't heard anything about that, Camila. The two holds on my account on for immunizations (in the process of taking care of that now) and an admissions fee. I see that the fee (which I assume is the $200 tuition deposit) is for incoming freshman only. This hold dates back to 2007 when I thought about transferring as an undergrad. Did everyone else (transfers, like myself) pay that fee this year?

Does anyone know whether or not we are required to have health insurance? I see on the website that we are covered by the college's Self-Insurance Plan during practicum experiences as long as we are in the "student" role...

Scratch that, I found the info. We do have to provide proof of insurance!

Hey guys do any of you know where we can go to order our polos and id badges, I did not get a chance to get mines during orientation. And I know they said we can go to the college but I forget what room.

Hey everyone. so I spoke to Mary Curran and if you are a transfer student and have an orientation hold you need to attend Transfer Orientation for the school. ONLY if your account shows the Transfer Orientation hold. There is a session available next Tuesday (April 15) and it's $45 for anyone that was unaware of this, like myself. Hope this helps!

I am attending the transfer orientation on the 15th.... I have a hold. I can't wait till all this paperwork and little stuff is done...I am so ready to start classes!!

Regarding the Hep B vaccine, I assume it's okay if we only have the first dose before the start of the semester? I didn't realize you had to wait months between doses.

Weird that some of you have the hold for transfer orientation and I don't (not that I'm complaining). Would think something like that would apply to everyone.
