FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Hey flgirl90 I actually took my bls class this week. I finally found one that fit in my schedule. Thanks for asking though and good luck to you.[/quote']

Oh okay! Well good luck with the program. I am working full time until I start my program in may, so finding time to go is hard!

czano what is your name? Wish I would have asked earlier so we could have met up today!

Hey everyone,

I somehow misplaced my Certified Background instruction sheet we were given during orientation. Would someone please be willing to email me a copy of the papers?

Also, does anyone know what kind of Littman stethoscope they were selling during lunch? Was it the Classic grade II or the cardiology grade 3?

That's odd. I could have sworn we received one, but I can't find one. I wouldn't worry too much, we can't do anything about the background check until we receive the code anyway, and I imagine instructions will be provided then. :)

As for the stethoscope, based on pricing I believe we were offered the Classic II (they were charging $75 for the stethoscope at orientation). The cardiology is extremely pricey.

Yes, they were selling the classic II S.E.

Does anyone know what kind of nursing shoes we can use?

I was wondering the same about the shoes. They were all wearing new balance walking/training shoes that you can get at sports authority for about $65. (FYI You can always find a $10 off coupon online... I work there) I was wondering because I have a pair of Nike Free 5.0 all white except for a light grey nike swoosh. I really hope that works!

Exactly which immunizations do we need? If someone could link to the proper forms, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey!

Does anyone know if we need to start the PrepU assignments anytime soon? I didn't really understand what we needed to do. I see it is a 180 day trial and I don't want to start it if it is not necessary.

hey fishfan I found the immunization information through the website Florida Atlantic University - Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing - Current Students and I think for the prepu assignment I wouldnt enroll until we get closer to our start date because is such a short trial time.

The trial is 180 days, which is 3 months; our Patho class is during Term 1 for the summer and will be over by then. I made 100% sure about that before and I went ahead and started it.

Please excuse my ignorance, but are titers allowed in place of vaccines? Isn't it just a blood test to prove you're still immune to the disease? The difference in pricing is sizable, to say the very least. Just to clarify, we need varicella, hep B, flu, MMR, TB, and tetorifice, right? Am I missing anything (besides a basic understanding of immunizations)?
