FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Yes fish, there are details about the Hep B series in the email we received if you are in the process of getting that series done. :) Just follow the directions there.

I know this sounds weird, but do you know if we need to register for courses - to go on MyFAU and add the classes that were mentioned on the blue paper handed to us at the orientation? I thought they were just registering us for the right classes, but I was informed differently form the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Thank you! Oh, BTW, I am taking a RedCross CPR class that does not mention AHA on it. Do I need to retake it? I understood that they want a AHA card, right?

Thanks again!

PS: Quendi, I would like to personally thank you for everything you have done for us (those present and the other numerous people who were just passive readers), I mean thank you "in person" at some point in the program if you agree to identify yourself :)

Hey Daniela! I would trust the CON. They are registering us, and are choosing which sections we are placed in. The Office of a Undergraduate Admissions probably isn't aware of this.

If you haven't taken the course yet, call them and make sure it's the AHA BLS for healthcare providers course. Otherwise you are wasting your time and money. We don't have much of either to spare at the moment. -quickly turning poor-

As for your kind thanks, not a problem at all! This stuff can be so stressful, and I know that being informed helps keep us sane. As they stated at orientation, we are each other's support system, as both students and future nurses. I don't mind if people know who I am. I actually spoke about these forums with some fellow students at the interviews. My name is Lynsey. :)

Hi,

I am actually taking the BSL course tomorrow through the M&M Medical that was in the orientation package ($30) which is not bad in terms of cost. So I will see some of you guys tomorrow at 9am for the course. Lynsey, the registration is quickly turning us poor - background check, ATI, shoes, stethoscope and God knows what. For now it is the Certified Background info and paperwork that makes me become another "kind of poor" :) Good luck everybody! Oh, BTW, visit the FAU health services, they really have very reasonable prices for our immunizations/doctor's visits (besides the prices are visible online).

Definitely costing me too, guys. The thing stressing me out most at the moment is health insurance. The student plan appears to be around $200/month, which seems insanely high. I'm trying to find the cheapest plan possible.

does anyone else have the admissions file incomplete hold? I am pretty sure it is for those who are not 100% graduated yet.

Hi Brianna, I have the same hold- I think that they are waiting for our official transcripts.

Fishfan - Have you looked into health insurance plans through the ACA marketplace? $200/month is too much for a student. -keels over-

Has anyone asked about what shoes are clinical appropriate? I'm assuming any type of white running shoe, but you never know. If nobody knows, I'll try to find out. :)

All of our health forms say the need to be uploaded into Magnus, anyone know what this is and how we do it?:dead:

As for the shoes, I noticed one of the students at orientation wearing all white Reebok's! And I read somewhere on the website/handbook that we are required to wear all white, leather shoes. Hope this helps!

Whatever happened to that stuff the faculty was saying they were going to upload into Blackboard? Did anyone find it?

I don't see it on mine, Karen. I assume they haven't finished it yet.

Heather - Thanks! I have some Skechers flex sneakers that are very comfortable. I might just buy another pair of those. :) I may be wrong, but I think Magnus was the portal they previously used to upload all vaccination records, etc. Now we are using the certified profile portal. I don't think you need to do anything there. However, I believe you do need to get your records to FAU in general, just not sure how that is done these days (they have mine from when I did undergrad there).
