FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Any12 I wish I would have mentioned that I will be a second bachelors student!! Oh well I don't mind an excuse to be in Boca :)

Nicustudent, I was accepted into the ABSN program. My cum gpa was a 3.5 in undergrad and a 3.9 in my masters program. I scored in the 99 percentile on the TEAS. As for studying, I rented a book from the library and studied for about 2 weeks before the test. I think it was a Kaplan book. It was great on the math and science portions but could have been better on the English portion.

Does anyone who lives in the Margate, Coral Springs area still need to get BLS certified? I am looking a for a few people to take a private class with me. The instructor said she would do a class with 4 or more people. I could not find a class time that is being offered that fit my schedule and is near my home. If there is anyone in the area who is interested let me know. We can maybe pick a day/time together. The class would be 4 hours and cost $50.

Heatherleighann I will also be a commuter from Stuart! I'd love to work out a carpool if you guys are interested.

hello everyone, I've been accepted to the ABSN program as well! @mel20 I live in Sunrise but Coral Springs isn't too far for me to do the BLS program. I'd be interested in doing the course. I work Mon-Fri from 8-5pm so I'd only really be available on weekends though so idk if that works for you...

czano, that's awesome! I'm definitely interested in working out a carpool :)

For some reason the college of nursing cannot see that I have been fully admitted to FAU, although I am and have been since October. Is anyone having similar issues?

Hey heather. Can you check your myfau account to double check? Alternatively, I would contact the registrar to confirm.

Hey Quendi :) I do have a hold for my final transcript but that does not affect me until Spring 2015, which has been confirmed by the admissions office; they have also confirmed that I am accepted. I'm at a loss for what's going on and Mary Curran (she is who has been in contact with me about this) will be out of the office until Monday :(

I'm going to make some more calls tomorrow to try & get to the bottom of this!!

I have a hold as well, but mine is a "declare major" hold. Silly, since I was pre-nursing. Guess it doesn't matter since I will be a nursing major as soon as the college goes through that. -shrugs-

I was thinking about doing the class on a Sunday because my Saturdays are very busy. Possibly on April 6th in the afternoon. Maybe it will work out if we can get a few more people.

I have the "declare major " hold also. I may see if it is something that can be cleared prior to the 5th just in case. I'm so anxious to see what my schedule is go to be. I don't want any obstacles, ha!

I called the registrar about it, and it has to be cleared by an advisor within the CoN.
