I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.
I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.
Since this is the first year they are doing interviews, anything is fair game I suppose! There are a few threads on this website that may give you a good idea of what nursing schools ask. Since it's group interviews, the questions won't be very personal. I would say definitely have answers to the usual questions ("why do you want to be a nurse?", "why do you think nurses are important?", "what do you plan to do after nursing school?", "why FAU?"), as these are fairly standard. They may throw in some curveball questions that require you to think on your feet. Just remember, it's okay to take a few seconds to gather your thoughts! There are no right or wrong answers (within reason, obviously), they are mainly just trying to get a feel for the applicants personalities and motivations as these are not something they get on paper from our applications. As as long as you smile, speak with enthusiasm, and present yourself in a professional and friendly manner, you have nothing to worry about. :)
From an earlier post. :) Best of luck tomorrow!
Well let me be the first to say, I am so happy that the interview portion is over lol. I feel like it went great. There wasn't anything left to say when I left. But I won't say anything about the questions ask until after 5 because I don't know what questions the traditional students might be asked. But what I will say is be there at least 30 minutes before your interview time. My group was the last taken out the room and someone did show up and her group had already left. Not only is the time needed to fill out some things but also it is a great way to talk to other people.
