FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Not a problem at all. I actually enjoy interviews, as I believe they are a chance for us each to really shine. Grades on a paper are really so impersonal, and gives very little information on the individual. You guys have gotten this far, this is the easy part! Just be yourselves.

I forgot to mention another common question that I would make sure you have a good response to. "Why should we pick you for our nursing program?" This, I believe, is their way of narrowing down one specific thing that makes every applicant unique. It can be academic in nature, a characteristic you have that sets you apart, previous experience in the field, etc. Basically, what makes you awesome.

I'm a fan of interviews as well; there's no way to see personality on a transcript!! I have never experienced a group interview though, it seems like they really just want to get a feel for how we interact with others. Is anyone aniline with the campus & surroundings area? I'm coming from Gainesville the night before and staying with my fiancé in Stuart, which is about 45min north. I'm taking I-95 and plan on leaving 2 hours early because I don't want to stress about traffic. Where can I find a delicious cup of coffee and where can we park?

Aniline should read 'familiar'. Haha silly iphone autocorrect

You can buy a temporary pass for parking at the school on their website.

There is a Starbucks on the campus itself if you get there early and want to relax before hand (good idea with the ridiculous traffic). As for parking, google FAU parking and transportation and see if you can get a temporary parking permit for Friday. Otherwise, there are parking meters but I believe they are an hour limit and require you to carry ample change. Although if your fiancé plans to hang around he can refill it so no worries there. There is a parking lot right next to the CoN building. You can find maps of the campus on the FAU website.

If you need any help, let me know. I know FAU Boca campus like the back of my hand. Lol

Hi everyone. This thread has actually been keeping me sane for the last couple of weeks. I am in the 9:15 interview group. Is anyone else?

Hey! That makes 3 for our time slot. I'm at 9:15 as well. :) Welcome!

Hey guys!!!

So I called FAU just now and apparently the interview emails for the accelerated BSN program have not finished going out! They were overwhelmed with applications this cycle so emails are still going out! They anticipate today will be the last day for emails if they are able to finish. I was also told that you will get an email either way.

Good luck everyone! Check your emails!

That's great news for those still waiting!

Best news ever!! Great...now the refreshing starts again.

Oh my goodness! Good luck everyone!! That's awesome news!

I received the email and unfortunately for me it is a denial for interview. I will certainly try again for next year and GOOD LUCK to all you on here!!! Everyone has worked very hard to get to this point and I wish you success in the program!
