FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Accelerated

So I guess if we haven't received an email by this point it is safe to assume that we did not get an interview? sigh. Does anyone know if you already have a bachelors degree in something if you can still apply to the traditional BSN at FIU. I see they have an ethics requirement. Is there any other class that can substitute that pre-requisite? Congrats to everyone who got an interview!

I'm assuming the same at this point, no letter, no interview. I guess I'm a little surprised that we don't even receive a decline letter but maybe that comes once interviews are complete and decisions made. What are anyone's thoughts on other accelerated programs in the area? And congratulations to those of you who got interviews!!

Yeah it was my understanding that we don't get a rejection email. Just an interview email or no email at all. Honestly from what I've researched there aren't many accelerated programs in the south Florida area. Miami dade has one but it is for an AS degree. I believe UM and Barry have an accelerated bsn program as well but that can get very expensive being that they are private institutions.

Hey, ladies with interviews... what do you plan to wear? business suit? nice blouse and skirt? We all want to look our best. :)

I'm guessing as of this point , no email=no good news...:/...once again congratulations to everyone, an best of luck, I'm sure y'all rock it my fellow future nurses ;)

Did anyone else with highly competitive scores not receive an invite yet? :-/

Hey sunshine. I'm going to stick with my black dress slacks (I don't ever wear skirts, but a nice knee length skirt should be appropriate), blouse and moderate heels.

Gforge88 what were ur stats? My overall gpa was 3.7, prereq gpa 4.0, and teas 86th percentile. I'm thinkin my teas score is the reason.

Thanks Quendi.... sounds like we are on the same page. I traditionally would do a nice suit but am thinking that may be slightly overdressed. Thanks

Well...I never heard. I had all 4.0 in every prereq except college algebra and the lady that ran those meetings for info (i thought that was dr. D) advised me not to retake that class. She said my classes had been perfect not to worry and the fact that I was a doula providing labor support since 2001 I was the type of student they wanted. So I guess that wasn't the case or it had to do with the BC not sending my transcripts when they said they did. Their error could have cost me this opportunity. I also had 99% teas. Oh well.

I had 3.33 for science GPA, C for A & P I doomed me I think. 97% percentile for TEAS.
