FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

U.S.A. Florida

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

I'm wearing a pencil skirt, blouse, and heels

I think a suit, or nice skirt and blouse...nothing too casual.

Yeah, I don't do skirts. Lol. Dress slacks for me.

Just fyi, I did not get an interview for ABSN either. My TEAS score is 99th percentile (96.7% overall), with 3.9 GPA nursing prereqs and 3.8 GPA overall. I'm certain there were many highly qualified applicants who didn't get interviews. Don't sweat it and don't spend too much time trying to figure out why.

I got an interview for 9:15 AM! I am wearing a suit I think...I am traveling from Gainesville the night before and stopping home. If the suit doesn't fit me then it will be a surprise to me as what to wear

Hey Brianna. We are in the same interview group! :)

Ross had beautiful suits for great costs

That's a good point! I think Bealls carries them as well at decent prices. I'm going to stick with the interview outfit I used for grad school. I wonder if there will be a lot of suits in our interviews, I never really saw them for grad school interviews....

Either way, I think both a suit or skirt/slacks with blouse are equally appropriate. As long as we look professional (i.e. No crazy cleavage or mini skirts...lol). :)

Hey guys! I got an interview for the basic program. Does anyone know what kind of questions they will ask in the interviews. I'm nervous and want to get prepared!!

Since this is the first year they are doing interviews, anything is fair game I suppose! There are a few threads on this website that may give you a good idea of what nursing schools ask. Since it's group interviews, the questions won't be very personal. I would say definitely have answers to the usual questions ("why do you want to be a nurse?", "why do you think nurses are important?", "what do you plan to do after nursing school?", "why FAU?"), as these are fairly standard. They may throw in some curveball questions that require you to think on your feet. Just remember, it's okay to take a few seconds to gather your thoughts! There are no right or wrong answers (within reason, obviously), they are mainly just trying to get a feel for the applicants personalities and motivations as these are not something they get on paper from our applications.

As as long as you smile, speak with enthusiasm, and present yourself in a professional and friendly manner, you have nothing to worry about. :)

Thank you so much!! That helps a lot :)

Thanks Quendi! You've been an excellent source of information throughout the application process :)
