FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Hey guys does anyone know if taking the Teas at FAU and sending the scores directly would be ok or we had to also scan them because I did not scan it because the lady stated that it would be ok. And I have been emailing FAU like crazy about it and no one responds.

Last year, there were about 800 applicants, but only about 140ish were qualified to apply. That's what Dr. Dormire said afterwards. Not too bad compared to what I thought it'd be! I'm still hoping for a email tonight!

Did you even get an interview last year or just a denial letter?

As someone said there were no interviews apparently years back they also had the interview process... but not last year so I was a denial.

Hmm I wonder why they decided to take away the interview process before. Does anyone know what to expect when they say "group setting interview"? Seems like it takes a little pressure off :) but I'm still curious to know if anyone's been in this type of interview setting before

NSU does group interviews... I also went through that process last year and was accepted but decided the program was not a good fit for me (I would really love to be at FAU). Their interview was a group/panel interview, so a few students and a few professors/administrators. First they had everyone introduce themselves, share a bit about themselves and why they were pursuing the program. Then they asked a seemingly random question that was more about personality than accomplishments for each candidate... Some were... If you could be any fictional character who and why? If you won a million dollars what would you do with it? If you were a type of flower what flower would you be and why? If you have ever seem the "if" books I am fairly sure that is where the questions came from. I have also done group interviews in my former career and some were each person has a question like NSU and some were more about seeing how the candidates bounced off each other and interacted. So long story short I have done a few and they were all very different... not sure what we can expect if selected. Eeeek!

So from last year and this year, what have you changed in your application? If you don't mind me asking. . . what were your stats like last year vs this year?
