A PA at work told one of our techs not to become a nurse because "they're all fat, miserable and all they do is complain about their jobs". At first I wasn't too happy with this ..... but then I can see how things look that way to him. Come to think of it, that describes about half of our staff. Perhaps nursing is simply an unhealthy profession.

Well most of the population is overweight. Nurses come from the population and so does every profession. You can see different sizes in ALL career fields, doesn't mean one job is going to be fatter then the next. I've seen many larger PA's and Physicians that doesn't mean that all PA's and Physicians are fat. I don't know but this PA should know better.
We just won a new contract..and our wages and bennies have been fling all over the hopsital, media, mailings to fellow employees etc...I've been hearing lots of "nursebashing" although not to my face..6'2 300lbs..years ago...I would have talked to them in a very unprofessional manner....maturity is nto a bad thing...when I "overhear" these malicious whinings....I DO get in their face and politley tell them "if you thinks it's so great and our lives and jobs are so wonderful, then become one of us,there is a shortage of over 100,000 RN'S nationwide..percentage wise the Navy Seals graduate more people than most nursing schools...(kind of a stretch, but let them go google it)...then I tell them to call me this Christmas, you know the number..I'll be right here..
Yes, most nurses are fat, in Los Angeles there is a radio stations that refers to nurses as big fat hypocrites. They take care of the sick and eat too much junk food. Notice in movies and films, Hollywood depicts nurses as big, fat and ugly. I can prove this over and over. Hollywood hates nurses. That movie Somethings Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson shows you what Hollywood thinks nurses are stereotyped as....big fat and ugly. There are thousands of films with ugly nurses
