Hi,
I am new here and I just have a couple of questions about FAMU's nursing program. I have an AA from BCC pre nursing, now I am currently attending FIU taking 2 classes. I am applying for the spring semester, I already got into the school now I amj ust getting everything together for the nursing program. So, if you applied to that school and got in please reply back to this. Here are my question
1) I know we have to set up an interview but im confused, do I need to do that before the deadline for the nursing application, or after?
2) Ihave the 3 letters of recommendation but I read somewhere on here that we need to write an essay too. I dont recall that.
3) Do we need to get a background check too?
I am so damn jealous it not even a month before school start, the summer class aint even over yet. EVERYBODY in my class found out at the most 2 weeks before school started, some even found out a day before orientation.I had to move about 1000 miles away in a week. but I digress. LOL
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Yea I know! Thank you! that's actually what the letter in the email said we were not going to find out until August 12 so I am sooo happy I know this early so I can actually sign my lease and all that good stuff. Maybe they are actually trying to be a little more organized. lol :) Do you know if I have to still attend transfer orientation even though I am going to be in the school of nursing...
ps. don't be jealous because some ppl were not fortunate enough to even get in anywhere :)
I did not go to the transfer orientation but i think you are charged a fee no matter what. but it is not mandatory.
Hey girly, I got into the program for the fall and I was wondering how the parking is near the college of nursing?? Like does it usually take a while to get a spot? Because I may be living like 15 mins from campus and I figured you'd be the best one to ask since you're already a student in the program! Thanks :)
hello everyone,
i have a couple questions, and i hope no one minds me asking.
1) what is the tuition cost per semester?
2) how is the program, and are you satisfied with the education you're receiving?
3) how are the professors?
4) how is the atmosphere?
5) if a student enters the program during spring semester, do they receive the following semester (summer) off? details?
6) what's the best living arrangement? dorms, apartments, or condos? if apartments, which ones are the best to stay in and that is near the school, hospital, and convenient stores (wal-mart, winn-dixie, publix, & clothing stores)
7) what is the best way to travel to tallahassee for the first time and when traveling with luggage's/accessories? (am trying to avoid driving up there)
8) is the $700 their requesting for uniforms and medical equipment's?
9) what the estimated cost for all of the books per semester?
10) would i need a car for the first semester, or after?
sorry for bombarding you guys with questions. i am just really curious, i've never been to tally and i've heard so many different/negative feedbacks about tally but not the program. if you can't answer all, just answer as much as you can.
thank you.
Hi sophie,
I am not in the program yet (am starting in the fall...in 2 weeks), so I don't really know the answer to some of your questions but i'll do my best to help.
1) i believe tuition is about $130 a credit hour.. fall, spring, and summer semesters are each 12 or 13 credit hours...which all together is around 60 credit hours...roughly $7800 for tuition
2) Not in the program yet, but I have heard the program is a good one and students have recieved 100% pass rating on the nclex for the last 2 years or so
3) Not sure about the professors
4) I did go tour the campus...it is beautiful. If you like hills...you'll love the school. Pretty buildings.
5) If you start in the spring, you would do the same 5 semesters that you would do if you started in the fall (you would do spring 2012, summer 2012, fall 2012, spring 2013, and graduate at the end of summer 2013)
6) Depending on how old you are, and if there is room on campus..i would probably recommend that just so you could get the feel for campus and get to know people. Most apartments do a roommate matching service so you could live with people similar to yourself. I do not know about the best apartments (I personally live in a house off campus) but I would definitely say to visit tallahassee and get a feel for the area. There are some bad areas, and some good ones. you need to definitely see the area before you sign any leases online.
7) Where do you live? If you're far away...you could fly. There is an airport in tallahassee. You usually have to fly into Atlanta first though as a connecting flight. I lived 5 hours away so I drove (it's a pretty brutal drive but it is doable)
8) I just received a price sheet. It is $700 for uniforms/clinical materials/Background screening and Drug check/CPR course. It is a one time price at the beginning of the program
9)I looked at books...and it looks like if you bought all of fall semesters books brand new at the famu bookstore it would cost roughly $1000. If you go the smart way though and go to other websites such as amazon, half.com, etc. then you could spend close to $600. Just depends on how you want to do it. For the 4 classes and 2 clinicals for fall semester there are 9 books...that gives you a good idea of how busy our lives will become haha
10) I would say you definitely need a car to get yourself to campus/clinicals but if you live in a campus affiliated apartment, they sometimes provide a shuttle to campus and i'm sure you could find a carpool to the hospital for clinicals. But, a car would probably be your best option.
I hope that helps! Sorry I don't know much about the program since it hasn't started yet, but ill try to keep you updated once I get thru a semester! Any other questions feel free to ask. Good luck!
