This community is rallying behind a nurse and her family who face deportation for overstaying their visas.
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. Marina Arroyo, who is from the Philippines, her husband and their three children were arrested last week after a traffic stop for a broken headlight.
The work visa for Arroyo expired three years ago, said Tim Counts, spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Bloomington, Minn. He said the entire Arroyo family is in violation of their visas.
"Anyone here on a temporary visa is required to leave before it expires," he said. "Making an application for another visa doesn't give one the right to remain here."

Why is everyone so upset? The family had a Visa, not full citizenship. It's not permanent. Kudos to the government for stepping up and enforcing the law.

something you need to be aware of, the risk is always there and the slightest thing can bing it up and immigration step in.

If you choose to break the rules then you choose to face the consequences if/when caught!
I cannot feel sympathy because they knew what they were doing & knew what would happen if they were found out.
It should stand as a warning to others who are thinking of doing the same!

The law is the law,no one is above the the law ,you break the rule then you should pay the consequence.
While some of us are here waiting so long for retrogression to be lifted others feel they are large and that they will get around the law without even weighing the consequences.
How can one be happy and free in another country when they are illegally there? And still feel they are free to move here and there without getting caught?
I am therefore urging all foreign nurses to read these threads carefully and take warning .Wait for the right documents ,retrogression will not take forever it must be lifted one day and we will all be free to live our American Dream the legal way.

I agee with the other posts. The law is pretty clear on this matter and if you break the rules you must face the consequences.

Their visa expired three years ago, so how was she even working? She needs to provide updated information to her employer as well or they can also face legal issues.
Chances are that she came here on the H1-B when it was still available and then never took the time to get the green card. Sorry, but this is her fault. And there is no reason for anyone to rally around her. What she has been doing the past three years is her fault and no one else's.
And this is discussed all of the time and in all of the newspapers, ICE picks up people for any violation and traffic stops does not exempt them from anything.
They need to leave the US just as everyone else does that finds themselves in the same predicament.
