Fall 2016 Wake Tech Applicants

Published

Hey Everyone,

I'm not new to this site, just new to actually joining and posting my own story since I myself am finally able to began the application process of applying to Wake Tech next Fall. Anyone else out there applying?

I am currently number 3! I have been checking webadvisor to see how many people have registered for nursing 111. There are two sections with 44 seats each. More than half the seats are left in each section. I know most people probably just have not registered but I am also hopeful that there will be seats left!

EmilyNicole91, you've got this!! Three spots and it's only June! You'll definitely get a seat! Congrats to you!

Thanks :) I hope you're right!

Hey Nicole, how's it going. Have you gotten any more GREAT news yet?

Not yet! I am anxiously waiting though lol. I check webadvisor often to see if there are seats left. There are still open seats so hopefully one will be mine!

That sounds great. I'm not feeling so bad after some HARD prayer about my 147 points for this upcoming spring semester. I'm moving forward........with that said, I've registered to take the AHA BLS CPR at work, which is free for co-workers. I know that I already had a required TB test that was due at work two weeks ago. Is it true that 2 are needed? If so I wonder will the one I had this this month and another in September will work? Anything else you can advise me to do? I'd greatly appreciate it. How about "KEEP CALM, YOUR ALMOST IN NURSING SCHOOL". If so..........right back at ya!

147 is not bad at all! I feel like you will be competitive for spring! That is awesome that you are getting a jump start on your stuff. It is true that you need two tb test. The one from this month and then the one in September should allow you to meet that requitement. You will have to show proof of other immunizations so if you wanted to get your records together and all in one place that wouldn't hurt. Renewing your cpr is also a good idea bc you will have to have that. You also have to have insurance and show proof of insurance. A small issue I ran into with that is I am on my mom's insurance plan. My name is on the card but my last name is not beside my name bc it is the same as my moms. When I uploaded my card to qualified credentials (the site they use for documents) they denied my card. I had to contact my insurance and have them email me proof of coverage and upload that. Simple enough. So if your last name is not beside your name on your insurance card then you could go ahead and get that letter (also cardholder/member Id has to be on card). The first week of class you will have to be checked off on cna skills so keep practicing those. First day of class there is a math test so you could practice that. The book they wanted us to buy was Calculating Drug Dosages - An Interactive Approach to Learning Nursing Math (2012) (ISBN 13:978-0-8036-2497-9) with workbook 3rd edition. They said to price shop so I guess it doesn't have to be that exact one. It is just for you to practice conversions. They will talk to you about this in orientation and you have plenty of time to study betweven then and spring semester though. I'm going to try to upload an abbreviation list plus rounding rules incase you wanted to start looking at those. I don't know if it will work though.

But really don't stress about it! You really are almost in nursing school :)

EmilyNicole91, do happen to have BCBS? I just checked my health insurance card and I have a feeling that I may run into the same issue. So glad that you mentioned that! :)

I do have BCBS. A lot of other insurances are like that as well. They have the cardholder first and last name and the other members listed with first name only (as long it is same last name). It was really easy though to get the proof of coverage letter. Just call the 1-800 customer service number on the back of your card and they can fax, mail, or email it to you.

EmilyNicole91, did the letter have to include anything specific besides verifying your coverage? Did yours include your subscriber ID since qualified credentials rejected your card? Does it matter when the letter is dated? I'm wondering if it's something I can look into doing now.

This list is THE TRUTH Emily. I got excited reading it already.......not to mention have already put some on note cards. A lot of them I'm pretty much familiar with working at Rex. However, I would like to mention how important these abbreviations are and how charting them correctly is very important because EVERYONE sees them and the charts follow patients forever. Funny story behind that, we had a medical assistant that was training, however, was able to start charting. She put that the patient believed she came into contact with someone with MERCER. It was a joke at first in the office, but eventually she got called out on it for her lack off understanding that it should've been MRSA, lol.

Does anyone happen to know how often/when students have to verify their healthcare coverage on verified credentials? Is it something we just upload at the beginning of each school year? For spring start, I assume that we would upload that information in October or November and then again in July or August?
