Fall 2016 Wake Tech Applicants

Published

Hey Everyone,

I'm not new to this site, just new to actually joining and posting my own story since I myself am finally able to began the application process of applying to Wake Tech next Fall. Anyone else out there applying?

APeregoy, so the class will not count because your application will be turned in already? Nutrition does not have a lab, correct?

Has anyone taken the prerequisites for their nursing courses at another school? I know that Nutrition has a prerequisite of Chemistry and Developmental Psychology has a prerequisite of General Psychology. I took both General Psych and Chemistry at another school. WTCC has my official transcript from that other school on file. Does anyone know what an advisor would need to do in order that I be able to register for these courses on WebAdvisor without getting stopped for "not having prerequisites"... since these prerequisites were not taken at WTCC? Anyone had this problem before?

Only classes taken through Fall 2015 will count for admission points towards Fall 2016. If I don't get in Fall, then the classes I take Spring 2016 will could towards Spring admission. All of my classes have been taken somewhere else. I am not taking any classes at Wake unless I get into the ADN program.

Well I took the TEAS today and got 84%, so that will give me 12 points. Nothing left to do but get my application in, and wait! I wish I had gotten the 91%, but I will not be retaking the TEAS. I wasn't able to study like I wanted to, but I am okay with my score! The extra 8 points would have been great though :)

Congrats on such a good score on your first attempt! I take it Tuesday and I am very nervous. Any advice? I have been studying with the McGraw Hill 5 TEAS practice test book as well as the ATI.

Thank you! I've been trying to look up other scores to see if mine was going to be enough! All I did was one of the practice exams from the back of the ATI book...I had planned on using the book to actually study, but between my other classes and exams, and trying to get applications together, it just never happened. I got 100% on the reading, so that was easy. I had an 83.3% in math, which was unexpected since I did very well on the practice test. I did feel that the math section was very very short on time, so watch that when you test! I think that's what did me in on that section. It is the only section that I used every last second of time for, and I am very good at math. Science was my worst subject, at 68.8%, but it seems to be that way for everyone. It was the earth and physical science questions that brought my science score down, so I would say look over that if you haven't. Had it not been for the earth and physical science, I would have had over 80% in this section, and probably would have had gotten the 91% I wanted. The English and Language Usage was at the end of the test and I was mentally checked out lol but I managed an 86.7%.

Good luck next week, I am sure you'll do great!! If you find any numbers on the average TEAS score for Wake tech, please share!!

Did you feel as though the ATI book was a good book to use to prepare for the exam? There aren't a lot of earth science questions in that book so I'm kind of worried

I can't really answer that since I never used it to study :( I planned on using it to study, but never got around to it. All I used it for was the one practice test. Everyone I've talked to that actually studied said that the ATI book was the best, which is why I planned on using that one. They say that everything you need to know is in the ATI book, but I'm not sure how true that is. I'm sure you'll do great!

Not sure if I mentioned this already, but I was told by Ms. Watkins that the average applicant only scores between 71-80% on the exam. So really most students will probably only get 6 points. So you are ahead of the game!! I'm interested to see how much of a difference this is going to have on an applicant's total points. Do you mind sharing about how many points you think you'll be applying with?

With the new point system, i think I will only have 164 :( I am still missing micro, but i am taking that in the spring. I know it's really competitive in the Fall, so I'm sure I won't have enough points. I am applying other places, so hopefully I will get in somewhere. I just hate I am falling so short for Wake. I guess if I don't, I can apply for Spring at Wake, and I believe I would have 196 points at that time. How about you? If you don't mind sharing.

That's still a good amount of points! I am sure you will get into a program! I am only applying to Wake Tech so if I do not get in, then I'll have to think about my next move. I may take a math course and apply again. My math will be expiring soon. I have not taken the TEAS so it's hard to give an accurate estimate. With the grades that I have now, and hoping that I get higher than an 81% on the TEAS, I'll have about 156. That's why I plan to take two more courses and apply in the spring. If I make an A in both of those courses, it could bump me up to around 186 (that's still with an estimated 12 points from the TEAS).

Hi APeregoy, I just recently took the TEAS and it was not bad! I made an 84% as well. I was a little disappointed though, as I studied very diligently. I ended up doing very well in the math-- 90%-- which was surprising. When I took the practice tests, I scored pretty mediocre in that section. In science I made an 87.5%; I was hoping to do a little better because I put the most emphasis on science when studying. The other two sections I scored in the upper 70's. Ironically I thought those two sections (Reading and English & Language) were the easiest… guess I rushed lol. I recently spoke with Wake Tech Health Science Advising about ranking points. I mentioned in a previous comment that I have a total of 156 points. It seems as though with the new TEAS scoring, they predict that 156 points is going to be very competitive for the ADN program. We will see! With that being said, I think that getting a seat in the program with 164 points sounds promising :) Fingers crossed!
