Fall 2015 University of Minnesota Master of Nursing Applicants

Published

I applied for entry to the fall 2015 Master of Nursing at the UM, anyone else? Does anyone know about timeline for finding out about interviews and/or final decisions?

My form was filled out and signed by an RN employed by my university's student health clinic. I had to bring a printout of all my immunizations, titres, and TB tests from the hospital I work at but then the RN signed it all off for me. That was deemed acceptable by the health center and now I am listed as compliant for everything!

I hope everyone's background check and immunization stuff went well. The next thing I'm waiting for is an email sometime in June - which could be this afternoon or in a few weeks. Does anyone have an idea of when we should expect that email?

I got my registration info email today. I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed at how poor communication has been, and the way our schedules were determined. All the emails I have sent with my paperwork from the checklist have gone completely unacknowledged, and I am concerned at how late we will be notified of financial aid awards. I am commuting about 1.25 hours out from the U of MN, as it makes no sense for me to move my young family away from our support network for the duration of the MN program, and was told that they would try to take this into consideration for registration and that my request would be forwarded to the scheduler. Even realizing we have very limited options, I was put into, quite literally, the worst class sections possible for someone not living in the Metro area. *sigh*

Obviously we will deal with it, and make things work somehow, but is anyone else feeling frustrated with how communication has been with the admissions and advising staff so far?

I haven't even gotten my registration email yet so you're ahead of me there! It has been pretty annoying though. Submitted my immunizations over 3 weeks ago and just finally heard back on them yesterday. No idea if I'm missing anything else or not!

For other people who have not yet received their registration email, did you just complete your immunizations recently too? Have most people gotten theirs already? Wondering if I should call...

I feel much better now about all of this--the scheduler has been nothing but responsive to my emails and kind and helpful. Whew. I am hoping that my issues have mostly stemmed from emails going to the catchall address for the SoN (even though that's the one we are given in the checklist for sending documentation). I'm feeling more hopeful now at least, and less panicked.

Evyviggy, I just completed all my documentation earlier this week, so maybe my registration email was linked to that? I assumed we were all getting our schedules at the same time, but obviously that isn't the case after all. I had all my immunization paperwork complete at least 4-6 weeks ago, took CPR in late May, did all of the online trainings, sent my transcript for the last two prerequisites I had completed in the spring, signed the student conduct form and the physical form as soon as I'd had my yearly checkup, and forwarded everything outstanding as of this week. I think all I still have to do is order scrubs and deal with financial aid once we know what loans/etc. we are eligible for.

Oh my goodness, I feel so silly. I needed to check my U of MN email, not my regular one. :sarcastic: So far it's just been lots of emails telling me to get shots so I have mostly been ignoring it!

Great news! I forgot that I have my UMN email set up to come directly to my computer, so I don't usually distinguish between University email and standard email.

does anyone know if there is a facebook (or otherwise) group that's been started for this class?

I do not think anybody has started one

If people want to get a Facebook group going, I would be willing to start one, we could probably add people from our clinical groups as well (I'll admit, I'm totally nosey and have looked up a couple of mine!)… It would probably be best to start one under the U of M groups on Facebook which requires your @umn.edu email. Is this something you all think would be useful for communication? I'd be happy to get one started now, otherwise I'm sure someone will get one started at least once school starts. But it seems like it might be helpful for everyone for figuring some of these final steps out :)

If you started the group and then sent the link to Alicia George or Linda Vegell (the people who have been emailing us) they would probably forward it to everybody else.
