Fall 2015 University of Minnesota Master of Nursing Applicants

Published

I applied for entry to the fall 2015 Master of Nursing at the UM, anyone else? Does anyone know about timeline for finding out about interviews and/or final decisions?

Hope everyone's interviews have been going well! Mine is tomorrow and I'm trying to stay calm and focused. Can't wait to hear results for all of us--fingers crossed!

Mine is tomorrow too, I'm trying to just relax but it gets more anxiety-inducing the closer it gets!

Good luck those those interviewing today!

Did anyone get a date when we will be notified?

No, but from a previous post I'm pretty sure it happens the first week of April.

I was told by my interviewer today that we should hear by the end of March or early April. I'm betting on early April, myself.

I always feel as though there was so much I didn't get to say, and things that didn't go as well as I'd hoped on the interview, but at least it's over and I think on balance it went fine. Sounds like there are a ton of great applicants this year and I'm nervous, but hopeful. I really liked the faculty member I got to speak to. How is everyone else feeling?

I think mine went well, but it's just so hard to say what the outcome will be. They told me decisions will be made late March-first week of April as well. Here's to the waiting game--good luck to everyone!

I prepared, but I didn't directly prepare for a single question my interviewer asked, so it felt like I was winging it a lot. I keep thinking of ways I could have answered better. Here's hoping anyway. Best of luck to you all!

Well, just got an email that I'm wait listed… So you should be getting emails if you get admitted, and congrats to those of you who got in.

Just found out that I got in. So excited!!!

I just got my acceptance too! :)

I was not accepted into the program...I'm extremely disappointed that they do not provide feedback. For those who got in, congrats! Can you share with me a little bit about your background and experience...I'm very curious to know what qualities or skills I did not possess in order to even get wait-listed. I have an overall GPA of 3.87 and a pre-req GPA of 3.5, GRE scores verbal 74% and quantitative 64%, I was a CNA in a hospital setting for 2 years, have worked in a mental health outpatient clinic for 3 years, have volunteer experience mentoring a teen mom, and have 2 children of my own and I'm only 27. I also graduated from the U of M with a BA in Child Psych. Any suggestions are very much appreciated!!

I was also accepted to the MN program, though it looks like not for the subsequent DNP for nurse-midwifery program (that doesn't necessarily surprise me, as the interviewer said they can only take a couple of people for the direct path and there were a lot of highly qualified applicants; I'll likely reapply during the next appropriate cycle). Honestly, I think that only small differences separate us all at this point; maybe it's experience, maybe it's the quality and source of our recommendation letters, maybe a tiny difference in GPA or GRE score, maybe a slight edge in interviewing skills, but I hope that those of you who were not accepted get in off of the waitlist or keep trying and are successful next cycle if you do not go somewhere else. AlexisLehrer, based on your stats I would have expected you to get in. I'm sorry to hear you weren't accepted! I don't have my figures in front of me right now but I have less direct nursing experience than you do (and also have two children). I have some healthcare experience in a non-nursing role, and my prerequisite GPA and overall GPA are a bit higher (4.0 for prerequisites so far, with the last two in progress this term), but honestly I think it's hard to know exactly what the admissions committee was looking for and it's very possible that you would be successful if you reapply. All of us who got interviews already were in the top 40-50%, I figure.

Congratulations to the successful applicants, and hugs and sympathy to those with less favorable outcomes.
