Fall 2010 UCLA MECN applicants share your comments/concerns

Published

Just a reminder for whoever interested in applying to fall 2010 UCLA MECN program, the deadline is Nov. 2, 2009.

Let me share my story. I mailed my application to UCLA SON two weeks ago via certified mail. I thought I could track my package on USPS website. However, it only showed that the postal service received my package and there was no more further info regarding the arrival at UCLA. I panicked and called the USPS three times with three different phone #s. And I went to my local postal office to recall my package. NO LUCK. They told me to call PO with 90095 zip code. Finally, I talked to the right person who worked in the Village postal in Westwood. He said UCLA had its own postal service system and it did not conform any kind of mailing. I was sort of relief that knowing my package was with UCLA SON. This is my first time applying to MECN. Anyone who is re-applicant out here, do you mind share your previous experience with UCLA-MECN?

That's a pretty heavy group, I was almost going to do USD and Columbia, but decided against private schools at the last minute...even though I know they are awesome. You should totally do USF too, if you have the energy to then just do it, I'm all out of application energy and when you are out then its impossible.

I'm from SD too, actually I'm here right now in pacific beach and also went to Mesa for the prereqs.

UCLA is going to have at least 5 stellar applicants graduated from UCSD and Mesa for the prereqs...diversity is overrated!

just wanted to wish everyone good luck! i've been avoiding allnurses, trying not to obsess about nursing school. a very difficult task. i totally agree with dizzymisslizzy9; hopefully everyone is getting some chillaxing time in! i'll be heading off to san quintín at the beginning of march on a botany field study for a week. i was lucky to get some time off of work. anyway, i've appreciated all the support from the other applicants. we're in this together, united in our suffering!

AeroNat13, seems like we have the same stomping grounds, I wonder if we were in some of the same prereqs together? :)

I agree with you Tanya Q, it is nice being in a thread where everyone is supporting one another... I hope we all share where we get into, choose to go, etc! I actually find out about my acceptance into Columbia by Monday, which is nice to know... but I'd like to know about everywhere else that soon too! haha

I'm getting impatient!! :smackingf

Anyone know when we hear from them?

around mid-march

thanks, dfgo! UGH- that is so late. I need to put down a deposit at Hopkins by March 8 and will not even have heard from LA. I wish all of the schools let us know around the same time. This is ridiculous!

javabean, i'm on the same boat... i have to let USD know by mar 5 (along with the standard $500 deposit)

decisions, decisions....

Sorry, I haven't checked the board in some time, so I'm a little late with the news! Congrats on getting into JHU! I got denied officially a couple of weeks ago. Only a few more weeks until we hopefully start hearing from the school, really not looking forward to the silence lasting much longer.

Staying positive ---

I only feel so bad for you guys that have to place that deposit...you already got in somewhere that must take so much stress off. But seriously, that really sucks...money stealers, I would expect that from private schools though. Wonder if UCLA has a deposit.

it does take some stress off, but adds another kind of stress - the different decision dates make it difficult to choose the program that is the best for me (and I'm sure others who are in my situation).

But I will definitely acknowledge that I am relieved/happy to have gotten in SOMEWHERE! I'll bet UCLA will have a deposit too, as far as I know all schools do

Did anyone talk to admissions about when to expect to get decisions? From last years posts it seems like they were notified by about March 5th. And also last year there was no deposit just a non-binding yes or no.
