Fall 2010 UCLA MECN applicants share your comments/concerns

Just a reminder for whoever interested in applying to fall 2010 UCLA MECN program, the deadline is Nov. 2, 2009.

Let me share my story. I mailed my application to UCLA SON two weeks ago via certified mail. I thought I could track my package on USPS website. However, it only showed that the postal service received my package and there was no more further info regarding the arrival at UCLA. I panicked and called the USPS three times with three different phone #s. And I went to my local postal office to recall my package. NO LUCK. They told me to call PO with 90095 zip code. Finally, I talked to the right person who worked in the Village postal in Westwood. He said UCLA had its own postal service system and it did not conform any kind of mailing. I was sort of relief that knowing my package was with UCLA SON. This is my first time applying to MECN. Anyone who is re-applicant out here, do you mind share your previous experience with UCLA-MECN?

does anyone know the approx. cost of tuition for a CA resident? i don't believe the numbers i'm finding...

Hey Everyone,

Just joined this thread... I'm impatiently waiting to hear from UCLA! I attended a prospective students day back in September/October... I remember the admissions coordinator saying they send out emails the first week of March, especially for all the admitted students. I also spoke to the admissions office back in February when I was dealing with some pre-req drama and the woman said first week of March as well.

Also, in terms of tuition for the school for CA residents... I know its still pretty steep (in comparison to undergrad tuition). I haven't looked at the numbers in a bit, but I remember thinking it would be between 25-30,000 for the 2 years of MECN. For me, its definitely the cheapest option of the schools I applied to, but does not grant the advanced NP degree as a drawback.

i’m new to this thread as well and am anxiously waiting to hear from ucla.

i also heard that acceptance notifications are sent out during the first week of march. a current student shared with me that students who receive scholarships are notified early as well.

i’m not sure if the mecn program will post online, but i have been checking for my decision status online at http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/prospective.html. so far, nothing has been posted…

I've been following this thread and thought I'd join in. Even though Shelli told me when I handed my application in that we would likely hear in the first week of March, I have been lynching my mailman every day since the middle of Feb! Poor guy....

So it's nice to be here where we can all wait together!

I just read the 2009 MECN thread (all 60 pages of it! Anything to take my mind off the wait....) and it seems like most people heard around March 12th ish - so I'm trying to chill and take my mind off it! It may be a little earlier this year, as Shelli said they sent the letters out on the Friday of the first week of March. Who really knows when they will get mailed really!!!!

The thread also says that if you get accepted, you get a large UCLA stamped envelope with an application package in it. If you get waitlisted or rejected, you get a small white envelope. Scary! Not I am really scared to see a small envelope!

Also, it seems that the 'decision status' link on the UCLA website isn't updated until after the letters go out, so it might be a waste of time checking that site (although if it helps keep you calm, click away!)

It also became pretty apparent that even EXCELLENT candidates got rejected. God I wish I had applied to a few more schools! But anyway, it's quite a lotto, so don't attach your self worth to their decision!

Anyway, really just wanted to say hi and 'hold hands' with you guys!

Hey guys, just called them and they said their making decisions today! All notifications will be sent out to everyone Friday, so you should receive it this weekend or next week depending on where you live. Don't bother checking the website to see your admittance status because the letters will be sent out first before they update their site or send out emails. I hope this relieves a little bit of stress for everyone :D

I can't believe how nervous I am about getting into this program. Does anyone know how many applicants there were this year?

Hey Everyone,

I don't want to send everyone into a frenzy... but I just got an email from ***** ******** that I've been admitted.

The official statement they make is "The University of California, Los Angeles School of Nursing will recommend to Graduate Division that you be admitted to the Master’s Entry Clinical Nurse Program for Fall 2010", since the Graduate Division technically has to accept you as well.
