FALL 2021 Nursing program at Suffolk county community college

Nursing program

Published

Hello, I am currently a student at Suffolk county community college preparing to apply for the nursing program for fall 2021 start. I figured I would start this early since the deadline was extended to March 1st 2021. I am preparing to take the TEAS in December most of my prerequisites are finished with a grade of A and one B. If anyone has some great tips on how to score in the 80s and 90s feel free to share. I wish everyone the best of luck.

I will try contacting them tomorrow morning...

do you call, or email?

I've always emailed admissions and have gotten relatively quick responses. If you have the direct email to an admission counselor, you'll most likely get an even faster response

Hi,

I wanted to put this out there. I will be attending the Fall RN At Ammerman. Congratulations to all who were accepted. For those who didn’t hear or got a denial letter, keep your head up and mind moving forward. I came back to college as an older adult and got a denial back in 2018. I did not apply for the LPN, but they reached out to me and offered a seat because I missed the RN by a fraction of a point. I had a decision to make... Either accept the LPN seat or wait until the next calendar year to take the TEAS again and re-apply. Time wise it made sense for me do the LPN and keep it moving. I am so happy I did the LPN program. It was a great experience. Now I will keep it moving again in the RN program and work as a licensed LPN while I go for my RN. My path may be longer, but the end game is still the same. I wish everyone the best, no matter your path. Never stop trying to attain your dreams! Any questions about the LPN program feel free to send me a message.

Hi,

I was just faced with the same circumstances as you outlined. So at my older age I have decided to go with the offer being extended of the LPN program. How has the experience been in the LPN program and any advice or recommendations in getting ready for the fall start and during the program itself. Anything you wish you were aware of before the program started? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

So what I will say is good for you on your decision. Opportunity comes in different ways into our lives. I hope you will be happy with your decision as I was. The timeline to RN maybe different, but you will gain a ton of knowledge in the LPN program.
My advice to anyone in the program is be well organized. Biggest thing: Map out due dates for assignments and stay on top of it!!  Print the syllabus and reference it. You will see those struggle who don’t create a solid study habit and let things go until the last minute stress out!! Make time to study. Struggling with a practical exam concept, book extra lab time to practice. Don’t understand dosage calculations, find someone who does and ask them to help you. Make good reference charts for lab values and medications that works for you. I got a great pack of index medication cards from Level Up RN. All the most helpful meds and important information you need about the med.  Find a few people to study with. LPN is still a robust and rigorous program, even if is considered part time. I did not come from the medical field, so everything was foreign to me.
My saving grace was the friendships created and pushing each other to the finish line. It’s quite satisfying when you do!
Don’t spend 18 months stressing about NCLEX because that’s all you’ll ever hear about. It’s a test more about delegation, tasks and analytical thinking than anything they say about it. You’ll be fine. Reach out if you need anything else.

Good Morning, thank you so much for responding. It’s greatly appreciated. I will surely follow through on your advise. Best wishes on your RN journey!

Hey

I will be starting the lpn program in sept.

can you tell me what your class schedule was like?

I know the first semester is is only 5 credits.

Looks like the 2nd and 3rd are 11 credits. Seems like clinical starts 2nd semester.

how many days of clinical did you have to do ? And then how many days of class ?

what were your clinical sites ?

Specializes in LPN.

IHi,

First semester I had 2 days early classes. On one day there was a small break in between 2 classes and the second day was only one class.
Clinical did not start until second semester so scrubs and stethoscope weren’t needed until then.  You will have time to order those before you need them.
2nd and 3rd semester clinical is one day a week. You will have lectures as well as a lab once a week.
My clinical sites Jefferson’s Ferry, very nice place and green port hospital for Mental Health rotation. Clinical sites may change every year based upon who is taking students as well as any COVID closings fir clinical. Anything else let me know. ?
