Anyone hear about the new statewide nursing curriculum? Bryan said that after Associate Nursing graduates complete the new nursing curriculum and get their RN licenses, they are then eligible to immediately enter UH-Manoa for their Bachelors. After 2 years at KCC/UH-Maui/Kauia CC they can go to UH-Manoa for a year and acquire their Bachelors. WOW! I'm excited! This means cheaper tuition for the first 2 years if you get accepted into the community college!
http://manoa.hawaii.edu/cons/curriculum.html is the website for the curriculum. Check out the other links in that website for other info.
Anyways, I'm applying for Fall 2012 at Manoa and KCC. Oh and I saw that UH-Manoa changed the deadline date to Jan 5.
But here are my stats so far.
pGPA:3.6
cGPA:3.4
I will be taking the NLN in November at UH-Manoa.
How do my stats look so far? Anyone got advice on preparation for the NLN?

KCC isn't on the statewide curriculum YET. as a condition of their most recent accreditation, they are being required to get on board. not sure what the time frame is though. also not sure how KCC grad's from the OLD (current) curriculum will fit into the whole ADN->BSN stuff at UHM.

This is great news (the statewide nursing consortium). All the schools used to be syncronized but then Manoa updated their curriculum and the others schools got left behind. But now it looks like the other schools (KCC/Maui/Kauai/HCC) are finally going to be updated as well. Now we can bring back the bridge program! This is awesome.
I just got accepted to the Spring 2012 entry at KCC. This is the last entry for their old curriculum. I believe the new curriculum will start in the Fall 2012. For those under the old curriculum, KCC is working with UH Hilo to make a bridge program for those students if they want to get their BSN. The classes will be online from UHHilo and the clinicals will be here. Only catch is you might have to adhere to UH Hilo's BSN graduation requirements which is slightly different than UHManoa.. I think the one I was grumbling about was having to take O-Chem
But all things considered, I am just so grateful to make it into KCC's nursing program. It's so hard to get in. You better believe I know how lucky I am and will work my butt off and won't waste it! :redbeathe
If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats for applying happyheart65?
sure, i took all pre & co-reqs except for Pharm203 and got an A on everything except for Math, which i got a B. and after a 3-day binge study session with that NLN pre-exam book (which u are more than welcome to buy from me for a discount!) i got a 142 on the NLN.
i knew KCC was going to be tough to get into from the start so i made sure i got the grades. as for the NLN i should have studied more but finals were killing me. a counselor at KCC told me sometimes the NLN is just as important as the grades because you could just be getting easy teachers and whatnot but the test? the test is ALL YOU. so it's a good measuring device. good luck and let me know if you want my book, $20. it's in excellent condition!
Wow awesome. I don't have anthro and pharm for co-reqs. I hope that doesn't highly affect my application. Oh and I got a's in all the (kcc) pre-reqs but a b in micro. hmmm.
Anyways, thanks for the deal but I got the book already. How helpful was the book for you? Did you see a lot of the books material in the NLN....especially the math? I'm just trying to get a heads up cause I'll be taking the pre-exam in November. My math is not too good Oh and I've been reading a lot of novels and newspaper articles to try and increase my verbal and reading.
I'll see if my friends want to buy your book. $20 is a pretty good deal :)

I thought I would add some information that I know.
KCC will be on the Nursing consortium starting Fall 2012. As far as applying to both programs I just want to let you know that I had applied to both KCC and UH manoa for Spring 2012. I received my acceptance into KCC (which is awesome), however KCC acceptance requirements are to return the letter of intent by 10/25/11. The problem with that is I have not heard from UH Manoa about whether or not I got into their program (my preferred choice). To make the situation even more complicated, KCC is having a "Mandatory" meeting on November 18, 2011, where $888 is due, plus a ton of other forms and requirements.
So I thought I would post this information so people know what to expect if applying to both programs.
As far as my stats:
p GPA 4.0
c GPA 3.92
NLN:
Composite: 136
Verbal 92 percentile
Math 90 percentile
Science 85 percentile

It's junk that KCC & UH notify at different times. Does anyone know if UH notifies before the KCC orientation? Also if we pay the $888 we will be refunded, right?
Btw, congrats 2BeOrNot2Be & happyheart65!!! Will you both be attending KCC or would you prefer UH if you get in?

hi rockinitfresh..
i'm not sure if you will need anthro & pharm before applying to KCC if it's in the Fall 2012. i'm really not sure what their new curriculum will look like, you could definitely send them an email and see if it would affect your application.
for me the book was very helpful, i just did all the practice tests that is included. there's also a CD-ROM included but i didn't have enough time to use it. the math is actually not as hard as the science part. they had questions from physics, botany, circuits... weird stuff i didn't know. if i had to take the test again i would definitely read up on the science part, but that's just me. i took chemistry in high school which was a long time ago so i didn't remember much.
oh, and so sorry but my book just got sold, someone on amazon just bought it... whoops.

I'm looking forward to the ADN-UHhilo BSN program. Thinking If I wanna take a chance and get some of those pre-reqs out of the way while i'm still in the ADN program to save time. Might end up regretting it though, all this paper work is already killing me, haha.
Hi Arii, so are you in the program for Spring 2012? If so, congratulations! Have you set up your CPR class yet? I have to get on that right away but have been busy..
I'm thinking about doing the ADN-UH Hilo program too. I had some extra time this semester so I started taking classes I would need for UH Hilo like Microbio Lab and Statistics, so when I grad from KCC I have a couple classes head start. I'm not sure I'll be able to do it once nursing school starts, it sounds like it's pretty intense. Have you seen a counselor yet? Crystalyn (sp?) really helped map out some of the classes i would need for the UH Hilo program.
I'm actually in the program right now, I started this fall :) It is definitely intense, that's why I'm on the fence about taking an extra class to add to the craziness. We just finished Long-term care and now we are starting acute care next week. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
