Fall 2019 Lonestar Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

Hey guys, checking in because it's been a while. Don't lose heart guys! Like Nijah always says, what is meant to be will be! All your hard work cannot be ignored or fruitless, it will lead you to where you're supposed to be. Here's a song for all the prospective hopefuls, you're not alone!

And this one is to the Lonestar decision makers from me personally:

Who and where did you sign up at?

I'm retaking English online. The professor I chose is Chris Feriante at the Tomball location.

Quantitative titers that need to be administered within the past 3 years:

-MMR

-Varicella

-Hep B (this should already be completed for application purposes)

***Those all need to be positive***

-Hep C titer (does not need to be quantitative, needs to be within the past 3 years and this one needs to be negative)

Then you'll need:

- 1-step TB skin test (results need to be negative)

-TDaP Vaccine (administered within the past 8 years)

**A flu shot (I'd hold off on this because this one was confusing because it said it needed to be after August 1st)

**Physical exam (has to be less than a year old when its turned in, also they give you a form to complete with it so maybe hold off on this one as well)

I have a question. Let's say I'm negative for MMR. I can start the series right? That will take time wont it, like a window in between vaccines. That's why you are saying to start now. Because If they don't tell us until June that may not be enough time to get everything done? I think that's why they started everything so early before to give people time for that.

And I saw on the website they don't want you to start any immunizations or physicals until after the orientation. So I really think its in everyone's best interest to tell the applicants sooner than later. They are probably having a fit about this just like us. ?

And you definitely have a good point!! If they are only going to give us a month or so to get shots and or booster!! Just wow

MMR you need 2 doses 28 days apart. ? Hopefully we are all immune and it doesn't matter. LOL

I wonder why they want you to wait...seems pointless to me! Shouldn't they want their students to come prepared?! Thats less stress on the students and the staff.

Maybe they want to make sure you have all the correct information so you aren't just out there getting random immunizations. IDK. But that pushes things out a bit. The student insurance, I've heard mixed things about this. Didn't someone on here say you didn't really need this? Like they don't check for it or something.

Im just saying why not start now because it will only help you in the process. If your titer did come back negative, yes you would have to start the series and have at least the first booster by the time everything is due.

Okay, I could see them wanting to make sure everyone has the right info. It does say on the website the post-admission requirements. I'm also just going off of the LVN requirements per the website they require you to submit everything on. As for the insurance, I'm pretty sure you need the health insurance. There's a requirement tab for it on the website and they want you to submit a copy of the card. I don't know maybe its different and if someone was accepted without insurance then maybe you don't need it. I'm just trying to help where I can and get as prepared as possible so I'm not scrambling later on.
