Fall 2019 Lonestar Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

I have a question that maybe one of yall can answer....on the checklist for the application it says its suggested to take Pharmacology either the spring semester or the summer prior to starting the program and I mentioned to a general counselor (mandatory advising at lonestar) that I was taking it this spring because in the summer most likely we will be traveling and she said I cant even take it bc it's part of the nursing program. I was able to enroll and all but now I'm hesitant on taking it. Any input?

Most of those general advisors have no clue what they are talking about, especially when it comes to specific degree plans.

To register for Pharm all you have to do is get the Nursing Department's approval. Meaning just send them an email the day of registration with the class number info and they will put you in the class. You don't have to be already accepted into the program.

So you said you were able to enroll after all? If so, then yes take the class! Disregard the idiot counselor lol

I second what accionursingbook said. That information is entirely false. Do not rely on the general counselors for ANYTHING nursing related. Think of the Lone Star nursing departments as totally separate from the rest of the college. They are their own entity. That is why they have advisers specific to the healthcare department.

Call or email the nursing secretary, they can help you with enrolling if need be. Also, you can reach out to the healthcare advisor for other issues. The one at kingwood (Hereford is last name) is an AMAZING help. I have spoken with her numerous times over the years. She is literally the best thing about that school.

But for future reference, avoid the general advisers. They are......uninformed, to be polite.

Hi all! Just wanted to join the thread and hopefully meet/communicate with others who are heading into the same program as me. Took my hesi for the third time last week, finally got the score I wanted...96.4! This puts me a 7.856/8. Will be applying to Montgomery, Tomball, and North Harris. April cannot come soon enough!!!

That's an awesome score.

You will likely have pick of the litter, no sweat.

FWIW, my cousin is currently enrolled at LSC NH and absolutely loves it. She loves her instructors, and admits that although she does not apply herself nearly as well as she should, she maintains good grades, is raising a young son, works almost full-time and still keeps an active social life.

Thanks! I figured she was misinforming me but she seemed so sure when she said it lol but ok guys I will take it! I'm waiting for my A&P prof to post grades so I can see what points I will be applying with. We took our final on Monday.

Thanks for sharing that! Awesome to hear. I have a little boy as well and sometimes feel so nervous about starting the nursing program and taking care of him. But wow, really amazing that your cousin is able to balance it all. Gives me hope. :)

It is absolutely doable. If there is one thing I've learned in my 120+ hours of college classes, it's that it all comes down to time management and prioritization. I am the world's biggest procrastinator and have to actively work at that, but if you put forth the effort, you will be successful. When I was in the transition program at Kingwood, I worked more than full-time and was able to still maintain a social life as well. The basic track students generally had the same story. You can do it!

What was the cut off score last application process for NH?

ADN hopeful for fall 2019 start! My score is 7.54 ( A in comp and API and II, HESI score of 88.4%).

Montgomery, tomball, or cy fair (not in order). Excited to hear from others and begin the waiting with other hopefuls!!!

Hi Everyone!

I applied for Cy-Fair/Kingwood ADN program and did not get in. They did say that they had a large amount of applicants. So, I am applying to all campuses possible for RN as well as LVN. At this point, I just want to get my foot in the door. My overall score is 7.504. Which is an increase to my 7.0 something?!? I got an 88% on HESI with a 920 in critical thinking. I am praying I get into the RN program. Good luck to everyone!

Same for me as well... I retook A&P 2 and made an A, brings my score to 7.36.... hoping thats enough to get in to one of the campuses... debating if I want to retake the HESI for higher grade, but i'm nervous I might get lower or fail a section then i'll be out of luck.

If you decide on retaking the HESI I know a great Facebook group that can help you study .. It helped me turn my 72 to a 91.
