Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!
Thanks! I suppose I should do the titer first to see if I even need it! I'm jumping ahead lol but I will definitely reach out to her for advice if it does come back negative. I would hate to be denied for vaccines after working so hard for these grades.Btw I'm taking the Hesi tomorrow so wish me luck!
Absolutely! Do the titer first. And good luck on the HESI. I posted back earlier in this thread about the HESI if you want to go back and read. You'll do great! 😉
I took the Hesi today and I did really good!!! Got a 90% average and a 940 on the critical thinking portion. I studied so much so I'm really excited about the results. Heres my experience in case it helps anybody I'm going to explain in the order I took them
1) Math (96%): I started with this one since it takes a lot of brain power in my opinion. There was alot of ratios and fractions (addition, subtraction and some multiplication). CaseyT had suggested memorizing the conversion chart and writing it down as soon as I got there. That helped so much! Take your time in this section and make sure to answer the question (Ex: One question was asking how many oz in 3 gallons, I converted one gallon and the answer was there. As soon as I clicked next I realized that it had asked for 3 gal)
2)Grammar (96%): I took this section next because I figured it would be a less stressful one. This one is pretty straightforward and as long as you know proper English you should be good. If you're hesitant, review the Elsevier hesi a2 prep and you will be good. This consisted of mostly "which word is grammatically incorrect"
3) Anatomy and Physiology (80%): This one I studied for the most and yet I got the lowest score. I think I focused more on studying the overall subject and should have maybe done more practice questions since some questions were very specific and others were more general. It is way too much info to get a perfect score in this in my opinion!
4) Reading Comprehension (90%): to be completely honest I didnt study much for this one, I did some practice questions I found online as well as out of the elsevier book but that's it. At this point I was kind of tired and I feel I rushed a little through this
5) Vocabulary (88%): this is another one I barely studied because I focused so much on the A&P. Some words I was able to get from context clues others I guessed but most of them I knew. Study the word bank in Elsevier book and you will be ok. If you can get your hand on more word banks online or something study those as well. Flashcards are perfect for this!
CRITICAL THINKING (940): This one I didnt study for because, well, you really can't. They were all in the following setup:
Patient: 65 year old confused male
Scenario: Patient is stating blah blah
Question: what should the nurse do?
This section is which is the MOST correct. What I did is I envisioned myself being that nurse and asked myself what would I do if I was already the nurse. I was very surprised at my score since I felt I was guessing in all of them so dont get unmotivated !
Feel free to ask me anything else and I will do my best to remember. Oh also something to mention, the math portion did have about 10 questions that weren't multiple choice. All sections were 55 questions except A&P and CT, those were 30 questions.
Congratulations!! You did awesome, and I'm so glad my advice helped. You were absolutely correct about the critical thinking section too. That is the perfect frame of mind to place yourself in when answering those questions.
So with a little arithmetic, based on the lone star college admission score rubric, if you have an A in English 1301, and an A in either Ap1 or Ap2, your application score would be a 7.6/8.
That is really excellent and all but guarantees you a spot. (If you have the A's of course)
Congrats!

Yes! Thank you so much. So im currently retaking A&P to get that A. Working hard for it too. So far I'm doing good. Got an A in my first lecture test, and have 2nd one tomorrow. I'm a little worried bc I have to have surgery for an umbilical hernia on Nov 1 so I'm concerned that will mess with my class but I'm trying to stay positive and just work as hard as I can.
Hi everyone, I'm an N1 student at the NH campus and I thought I could give y'all some info! Montgomery gets more and more competitive each year, so make sure you have a high score! The lowest score they accept last year was a 7.55! I had a 7.47 and didn't get in. I absolutely love the NH campus and it's an amazing program. I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has :)
Hi guys! I will be applying to Montgomery, Tomball and North Harris in that order because they have really good NCLEX passing rates compared to Cyfair (due to integrated classes being more easier to understand concepts vs block). I will also be applying at HCC, San Jacinto, UTH and several other programs as well. My main goal is to earn my BSN so I will most likely take the TEAs test so I can expand my BSN opportunities at either SHSU or TWU. :)
Are you applying for Summer 2019 start date at UTHealth?
This might be a repeat question but... I have an A in AP1 and a B in English.. Hoping to score high on my HESI.. Should I spend the time and money on a winter mini english 1 and try for that A? .... ?
It looks like the past cutoffs have been 7.5 or around that so you would need to get a perfect score on the HESI to achieve that. I would honestly go for the mini-mester!

Thank you for your response. Looks like I will be taking it in this coming mini mester.. I knew I should but wanted to get some input on it. :)
