Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!
Thank you soooooo much for taking the time to type all that out. I will definitely take your tips and I had the pocket prep thing but the free version and it didnt help at all so I deleted it. Honestly, I'm gonna get the version You pay for bc A&P is tricky. I get the overall subject but the details are what get me. I'm retaking A&P 1 to get an A cuz I got a B last time and I thought it would be easier but it's still tricky. Anyway, I have an A in English and am taking the Hesi on October 10th I think. I bought the elsevier 4th edition and am working through it when I have time. But the critical thinking part is what scares me the most, because I have no experience as a nurse or anything and I keep hearing that you cant really prepare for it so that kinda scares me.

You are quite welcome, I hope it helps. Definitely use the PocketPrep App as the questions are a good representation of how the questions on the test vary from very broad, to very specific (details you mentioned.) Even better than that, the more of them you do, the more you start to see body systems overlap and working together in your head. It's funny how it just dawned on me one day how well everything was coming back to me from my AP classes, because of using that app.
And you are partially correct about the CT section. It does help having a background as a nurse (I think I forgot to mention I am applying to the transition programs, not the basic track). But remember, I took it to get into LVN school with no medical background, as most students did in your position with the regular track. It is doable. Once you re-download the app, look on there and see if there are practice questions for it.
As far as your A&P grade, if you end up borderlined between an A and B, go to your teacher and be up front with them. I would pull them aside after class and tell them "Hey, I am re-taking this class to improve my grade to apply to nursing school. I am working as hard as I can and I'm still on the edge and making an A will make me much more competitive when I apply. Is there anything I can do for extra credit that can help out my grade." Most AP teachers know that you are taking the class for a medical profession and understand that the struggle is real. My AP1 teacher was a former MD and that is EXACTLY what I did and I **magically** went from an 87 to a 91 average, just for having the conversation with him. You never know!
Hi guys! I will be applying to Montgomery, Tomball and North Harris in that order because they have really good NCLEX passing rates compared to Cyfair (due to integrated classes being more easier to understand concepts vs block). I will also be applying at HCC, San Jacinto, UTH and several other programs as well. My main goal is to earn my BSN so I will most likely take the TEAs test so I can expand my BSN opportunities at either SHSU or TWU. :)

Hello and welcome!
Sounds like you're off to a good start with your applications. As far as lone star goes, Montgomery has a fantastic program with awesome clinical facilities both on campus and off. That was actually my first choice for the transition program but unfortunately, because it is heavily front loaded on the summer semester being 5 days a week, it is out of the question for me working full time 3 days a week.
NH also has an excellent program. My cousin is in level 3 right now and raves about it.
UT's pacesetter program is also amazing from what I've heard, but EXTREMELY fast paced and very competitive to get into. I applied to that program 3 times with a 3.5+ GPA, 93% average HESI scores AND an LVN background and was still denied. I have had quite a few of their students come to my former job for clinical rotations and they all loved it.
Good luck with everything!
Hello everyone. I plan on applying to Montgomery next spring in hopes of getting in. I am going to be searching for a late start a&p 1 class to retake this fall to boost my points. I applied to kingwood and did not get in. I believe the lowest scores for kingwood and cy fair was 7.5 and I had a 7.09. I have an A in english and a B in a&p I and scored a 91.60 on the hesi when i took it in May of this year. I may think about retaking that as well if I am not able to find an a&p class to take before the application period. What do you guys think? Do you know of any really good A&P instructors? Praying we all get in.......
Good to know what we need to aim for! I'm retaking AP also this semester to boost my B to an A. I've taken professor Hughes last time at Fairbanks and she was good and now I'm taking professor Moore at cyfair and hes good also. But I dont think either of them do late start. I would suggest looking on rate my professor. Does anybody know if we have to take the HESI at each location if applying to multiple ones or does one count for all of applications?

Thank you! That's awesome to hear! How do you like being a LVN?
I've been reading the other forums and it seems like UTH doesn't really have a clear criteria on how they select their applicants! It's kind of crazy how some of the most stellar students are unable to get in, but it also gives me hope lol. I have a 3.8 GPA and I scored 91.2 on the HESI.

Good luck with that! Anything to boost your score certainly helps. I'm pretty sure they'll have a winter mini-mester for A&P or a short 8-week class before the application closes. Do you mind telling me who you had for English? English isn't my best subject so I'm hoping to find a lenient English teacher. I received a B in 1301, and an A in 1302 (wish they would consider my 1302 instead!)

The HESI will apply for all lonestar applications. :)

88% is pretty good as an average, so I do not doubt you can do even better if you do retake it, and you've got plenty of time. But yes..definitely get A's in those classes if you want to be competitive. Good luck!
