Fall 2019 Lonestar Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

Okay, I'm about to spill the tea for Montgomery ADN orientation!!! We were drug tested (urine) as soon as we got to orientation. I wasn't told not to tell others, so I hope there is no breach of etiquette or violation of some kind. If so I will definitely delete this.

Our director told us that we will need 2 alternates. Later, she told us that one person was supposed to have a drug test but never came back. I'm not sure if that person was included in the 2 alternate statement she made or if that person is in addition to the 2, so there could possibly be 3 alternates so far.

We were given a nice powerpoint presentation/explanation of the basic things that are already available to us on the Lone Star website, along with a run-down of what scrubs to use and shoes to wear. She held a raffle and 2 people won a lab bag with necessities inside worth 220 dollars, along with about 8 or so people who won coffee cups and candy. She also offered a selection of used books (supplemental, not the ones we need for the program) and a box of used/donated scrubs with patches already sewn onto the sleeve that we could look through if they fit us.

Two financial aid representatives came and spoke to us and gave us information about credit hours, appeals, and workforce solutions scholarships. Then we had a professional come speak to us about the nursing book bundles and the pros/cons of ebooks vs. print. She rounded out the session by giving us a 23 chapter reading assignment along with other assignments for the Summer.

Of course, this is just a summary of everything that happened but I believe I covered some of the major points. I loved our director though, she was kind, personable, straightforward, and even funny at times and I got great vibes from her. I hope this helps anyone that's curious. ??

This is all great info. Thanks for this. I was accepted to NH but no one spoke to us of the pros/cons of ebooks vs. print ?. Ebooks are far cheaper and I was thinking of getting mostly those. What are the pros/cons?

Ebooks come with far more resources. You can also transfer them to different devices. It’s also cheaper then print. Someone in the forum said that the Littman bundle is a must because there are a ton of resources and you can also speak to the littman advisors to help you along your course.

Great thanks. Not to mention alot easier on the shoulders and back as I don't have to fetch heavybooks around. Thanks a bunch.

We have to the the Lippincott bundle for NH. Almost $700?

Yea I saw that it’s $681.... I’m gonna try to find it individually somewhere else besides the bundle lol

It's personal preference. If you study better with a physical book, then buy the print books. If you study better with a computer, then buy the ebooks. Don't let someone tell you what's best for you. Only you know that.

Has anyone heard from the Transitional program at LSC Kingwood?

Any one else having to wait for almost 3 weeks for a blue card?

I emailed TBON and they said it was sent 5/10 but I never got it. Emailed them again today explaining that it never got here so hopefully they'll send a new one?

Anyone know which campuses have evening classes?
