Fall 2019 Lonestar Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

@NomadicMurse if you don’t mind me asking how old are you? From your profile pic you look mid twenties (good thing lol)

31. I'll take that as a compliment. I'm holding onto my youth! Woohoo! lol

Honestly, the NCLEX pass rate for all 4 schools is pretty similar with Tomball being the highest, not Montgomery. They're all really strong programs. I'm finishing up my first semester at CF and my cousin is finishing her second at Montgomery, and CF is different from all its "sisters" but still produces strong nurses. We learn all of the content from one area before we move on to another, while the other schools learn a little more from each subject each semester. The two people I know from the CF class that are graduating in May already have jobs lined up- one at Methodist and one at Memorial Hermann.

I will say, enjoy this time! Organize your houses, save money, watch a ton of Netflix; you're about to be in for a whirlwind!!

@Mrs.Sanchez I find it strange you chopped that off where you did. I have included the full screenshot plus a copy of the PDF report. You're also referencing just 2018, not looking at historical data and averages.

Additionally, your reference to the curriculum has to do with the program type. CyFair is the only campus that does the Block Program, while all other campuses have the Integrated Program.

Scores look good to me.??‍♀️

I "chopped it where I did" because I wanted to show last year's scores and have it show at the top that it was from the Texas BON. The programs adapt throughout the years to improve obviously, so the most recent scores are what matter.

My point was that the programs are all well put together. I know the programs are different. I'm in it. I was simply explaining a way that they are different. I find it strange that you feel "historical data" is more important than a program changing to improve.

So sorry about that Mamadetermined, it absolutely does matter! You worked so hard for that score dagnabbit, and by golly, you shall be attributed the full weight. It is also important for the future because students applying for next year will be curious to see the data points accurately; every little piece of info can help a student to gauge where they stand and to evaluate their options and probabilities for next year.

@NomadicMurse Very helpful information for prospective applicants and current hopefuls. Like many here, I am in my early 30s and had never imagined I would be going to college one day. I was not given the opportunity to attend 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in my lifetime. I earned a GED when I turned 18, but my lack of education had given me a bleak outlook as far as a career path. I also needed to practice being around other people and working on a team to improve my people skills. I feel my journey at LSC has caused exponential growth and can say I would not have been ready for the program a year or two ago. I have worked on myself and my weaknesses and have made great strides towards developing characteristics that will permit me to succeed in the program and beyond. I am glad to see that we are all on the same journey, taking different paths leading to a similar destination. This is only the beginning. ?

Oh wow, congratulations!! I’m a young mom with 2 boys (2 1/2 & 2 months old) and I’ve literally busted my butt to be at this point! I only have chemistry left to take in order to transfer for my BSN after the program and I’m planning on taking it while I’m in the program towards the end. You had a very inspiring story ?

Let's look at other data. 2018 completion rates and job placement. Why do some of these programs see so many students drop? Remember, this data presents a goal that a student can complete the program with an additional year to try.

I'm not trying to bash one campus or another. But students, both Fall 2019 hopefuls and anyone who references this thread later should see this data to be able to make an informed decision and keep reasonable expectations.

You also have to take into consideration the damage that Hurricane Harvey did. I spoke to the director about CF and Kingwoods completion rates over the last two years and they said that most was because half lost their cars and homes and dropped the program. This was especially true for people around CF and Kingwood.

Kingwood actually has really good numbers though and had far more severe flooding than the CyFair area did. They've moved into Montgomery for the time being. So, that explanation doesn't really answer any questions since the result isn't the same for both campuses. Just thinking analytically here ?

This is a screenshot from a report you can find on LSC - CyFair's website. I have included the full report. Notice the cohort retention rates being low before Harvey and a Retention Task Force being formed. LSC blew smoke up your hiney.
