Fall 2019 Lonestar Hopefuls

Published

Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

I don't know how true this is, but a friend of mine who is in the Montgomery program as a first-year student told me hospitals are hiring ADNs from Montgomery but NH students can't even get an interview. Take that with a grain of salt, but it's worth knowing I suppose.

I wonder if that is true because NH has better scores than Montgomery

That seems like you mostly will get in. Please register for Pharm for the summer. I'm with hidden messages. But NH hasn't said anything at all and nether has CY. Did anyone else from Montgomery get a call??

Nope, no calls here. It's possible that they could of called from an unknown and I didn't answer though, but who knows at this point? ?‍♀️

From looking at the website they are all score pretty well with passing rate and hire rate. I'm sure there are other factors if that is true like where they are applying , and where they do clinicals.

Where are you getting that information? Because what I've seen is NH has the worst NCLEX pass rate of the four campuses most of us are mentioning.

Montgomery: 94.02% (22nd in Texas)

Tomball: 93.20% (29th in Texas)

Kingwood: 92.45% (36th in Texas)

Cy-Fair: 89.16% (55th in Texas)

North Harris: 88.48% (64th in Texas)

Rankings are out of 119 schools across the state.

The above post is ongoing averages. NCLEX pass rates for previous cohort (2018) according to the Lone Star College website:

Tomball: 97.5%

Kingwood: 94.96%

Montgomery: 94.74%

Cy-Fair: 94%

North Harris: 93.22%

Tomball shows averages from the last 4 years. If I average them, it closely matches the numbers from the post above. So that information is not bad information.

Looks pretty even to me. I think Lone Star as a whole is a good program I don’t think they would let NH fall off.

Y’all, nursing school is nursing school. Get in there, work hard, and pass the NCLEX. Nurses will always have a job. Goal is to just get in.

If you consider the number of students in the program, 39/40 passing and about 115/120 passing is still incredible.

That's for one year. If you look at historical numbers, certain campuses have done better than others, but as a whole, the LSC program is improving. They are in the process of getting approvals for their BSN program as well.

I'm not trying to do anything but throw out information and statistics for anyone who cares, as some of this may relate to how easy it is to find a job in the bigger hospital systems in Houston.

The fact is, ADNs are going to have a hard time finding a job in 2021 in major systems. There are states who have been trying to pass BSN requirement legislation for a decade. I don't know how many of you are core complete or just good enough for the ADN program, but you may want to look at taking core courses in summer to get closer to being core complete. Being BSN-ready at the time of an interview could be very advantageous as employes know you are roughly one year from obtaining the BSN, instead of a minimum of three years. It's something to think about ? the more informed you are, the better off you are.

I wouldn't call it "incredible," I'd call it expected. You shouldn't go into a program with the mentality of it being "incredible" that they train you well enough. You should go into a program with the expectation that they train you that well.

I agree. I plan on continuing on to a BSN program. This is true in any industry.

Okay so i just got some inside information so I’ll share with y’all! So basically don’t hold your breathe for a letter anytime soon! So here it is, the person who usually handles the sorting of application was moved to a new higher position and they have not filled that position with anyone new yet so nothing has been done with our applications! They are in the process of finding someone or going to have to train someone for that position.... so yea...
