Fall 2018 Lone Star Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone, just wanted to start a Fall 2018 page for Lone Star ADN/LVN future students!

I took micro spring 2017 and knocked out pharmacology fall 2017. Micro was tough I got a C in that class, but I also took a really tough instructor. Steve Anaya at Tomball.

Ive heard terrible things about him!

So is everyone here applying for the transition or basic track?

Basic track

Basic track

So with basic track do they include the pharmacology grade?

That's who I'm taking. I chose it cause its a hybrid with 5 labs and my kids are out for summer so I can't be in classes all the time. Should i switch to the Atascocita instructor lol He has a really wierd name. It starts with a C I think.

Yes girl run for the hills on Steve Anaya. I'm currently taking Professor Karr and 2 girls in my class has taken him and said they failed his class. I was signed up to take him last semester. I sent him an email the first week of class after hurricane Harvey hit to ask him if he was going to extend the due dates since everyone else did (I had already read his syllabus). He replied with "Do not ask me questions without reading my syllabus first." He's rude and he holds other students accountable for someone else's mistakes. He has this rule in that if someone forgets to wash their hands as soon as entering or exiting the lab that person has to draw someone's name out of a hat and whoever gets selected gets points taken off of their lab grade. I comprehend his purpose that he's trying to teach healthcare professionals that what we do can affect other people HOWEVER when it comes to someone's grade that's unfair. Choose someone else, you'll thank me later.

This true. My named was pulled and I lost pints one lab. If there is someone else that has better reviews, go for it. I needed hybrid due to my busy schedule and it worked out pretty well for me. I ended up with a B but that was because I studied my bum off and reviewed notes and quizlet.

ugghh....so he is the only one that has a hybrid this summer. I dropped him because I would rather wait to take microbiology than mess up my GPA. I wish my anatomy teacher taught micro cause she is amazing.

Mr. Anaya was tough but funny. I took his hybrid class and managed to pull a B somehow.

I took his hybrid as well and yes he is very funny.

I won't lie his class is tough, I took his hybrid as well. He treats the labs as though you are in a sterile field like you are already a nurse. You must wash your hands when you enter class and before you exit and use a paper towel for barrier between door knob. You must keep your hands above the sterile field wearing gloves, don't let your shirt touch against table when you are working with microbes.

If anyone in the classes messes up he will have that person press a button which will randomly choose another students number and you will lose 5 of your bonus points that he starts you off with. I want to say it was 20 bonus points.

Basically he is saying as a nurse if you make a mistake someone else suffers. Which is why other people lose bonus points.

Don't be late to lab or you will have to wait until break to go in, which means you will miss a lab sections he locks the door.

Defiantly tough, but a good instructor and funny.

How was his lecture? Did he have slideshows or was it just textbook and notes?

Power point presentation and I did not use the text book. He also had chapter review notes which you should study that the most. You must take the exams at a lonestar campus. So you can't take the exams from home. No notes can be used on exams.

If you are talking about Caleb Makukutu at Atascosita for Micro the answer is no. Do NOT take him. Run away as fast as possible. He was horrible in 2004 and he still gets the same complaints I had of him back then. His rating is awful and I'm amazed he's even still teaching. That being said, I did wind up with a C+ and didn't study for the final at all bc I had decided to switch to business. I never transferred my grade back to my Uni and just found out this christmas when I re-enrolled at Lone Star (It wasn't lone star back then I don't think) that I even got the C+. Every test was cumulative and he is very uncaring and unhelpful. He didn't seem to enjoy teaching, at all, and people still complain that he hates teaching. Not a good situation to be in.

I'm taking Tiffany Martin for Summer I. Sadly, I have to refresh that course bc it's "expired."
