Fall 2019 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry Into Nursing Hopeful

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm currently preparing to apply to JHSON MSN: Entry into nursing program. I was wondering if those of you who are current or former students of the program could share your credentials, GRE Scores, GPA, and experience of being an MSN Entry Into Nursing student. I know that I am asking for a lot. I'm a bit worried that my GPA will not be high enough. Cum GPA is a 3.3 but my prereq GPA is 3.7

Same. I think we may be hearing after. I emailed them asking when I should hear back. I will let you know once I get a response.

Congrats to whom have been accepted. They send out rejection through the mail, which I have received it today. I appreciated their gesture in telling the bad news in a traditional way rather than an email.

Anyone else deciding between Georgetown and Hopkins? If so,do you mind sharing any important considerations you have found for each program?

does anyone know the actually class size of the incoming class?

@abcdenrse Hi! I've seen you posting in Columbia SON's thread as well. I'm pretty sure I've decided on JHU, even though I'd be sad to give up the seamless scholarship at CUSON. For the MSN, with scholarships, the COA is the same at both schools for me. I'm wondering where you're at in that decision. Congrats and good luck on deciding!!

What is guiding your decision? I'm trying to decide between the JHUSON, CUSON, and OHSU. Still conflicted, but I think they're all great.

Wow, good for you with these good choices! Do you have DUSON to choose from too?

For OHSU, it’s a much smaller program than the other ones. It depends on if you are in state or out of state. Plus other factors you might consider normally like location, job perspective, etc.

No, didn't apply there. Is that an option for you? I'm in state and it's at a smaller campus, not Portland, so the opportunities for clinical rotations are fewer I believe. The study abroad opportunities are much more limited than at JHU or Columbia, and they do not offer medical Spanish. I think the cumulative effects of these things make the program less attractive for me, although I do like the smaller cohort size at OHSU. What is appealing to you about JHUSON vs Columbia if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, I got accepted to Columbia, JHU and DUSON. For me, I am not into gaining study abroad opportunities since I have done it before and I travel often. I also do not intend to learn medical Spanish since I already speak two more languages other than English.

Both Columbia and JHU are more expensive than DUSON for their comparable programs (I don't mind whether it's a MSN or ABSN). And they are more than double the tuition for the ABSN program at OHSU! JHU adds another year of studies which is also something to consider. On the other hand, although Columbia a one-year program, its intensity is insane! I definitely don't think I can pursue much other things while I am in the program even being in a great city, plus I prefer a more balanced school life. So I am most likely going to choose DUSON and it's a good well-rounded university overall.

For you, I think it really depends what your priorities are. Are you only focusing on nursing or want a more balanced school life? How much are you willing to pay or borrow loans? The higher the costs, the bigger the risks (Columbia is the most risky out of the 3). How much does the location matter to you? How intense can you handle the amount of course load? My ranking of intensities (from lowest to highest): OHSU --> DUSON --> JHU --> Columbia. What are your goals for nursing? For the clinical rotations at OHSU, I suggest you ask the current students and see how/where do they go and their thoughts about the quality of the program.

Hope it helps.

@whitesocks JHU said I should be hearing in the next few weeks, so I think you should also hear back soon.

You will hear back after April 1st. That’s the deadline for put down deposit for accepted students. Then they’d move on to the waitlisted.
