Nursing Students School Programs

Is anyone applying to cal state east bay this fall for fall 2017 ???! nursing program

So I may have my cumulative GPA wrong. I just took what was off of my transcript. Where are you all getting your score? CAS? Or what you calculated?

I calculated mine. My prereq GPA is a 3.87. Cum is like 3.8. But according to their points system, they do not award points for cum gpa, only the 8 pre request classes. The cum gpa is only used for waitlisted students in the event of a tie.

Yeah there is, like they said in one of the emails they often take a lot of people off the waitlist. It just kills me not knowing for sure what our number is or if we'll even get in. That's what I plan on doing too - actually looking at places to volunteer at right now ha. That'll at least give us some extra points for the next time around if we don't get in.

Did you apply to any other programs? I'm currently waiting on a few ADN programs, LMC and Delta mainly, so I hope I at least get in somewhere. I just want to get started so I don't get stuck in that limbo of just waiting to apply for the next year.

Hey Everyone! I too applied to CSUEB and literally just found this post and went through the entire thing. Wish I would have found this much sooner. A friend of mine recommended this website to me. Anyways, Just want to start off by saying congratulations to everyone who got accepted and even to those who got waitlisted, there is still hope. I received my letter of acceptance this afternoon and my stats were

Pre req GPA: something like 3.87

Science GPA: 4.0

Teas: 88%

I also submitted the english language proficiency along with the second language (speak Spanish).

Anyone else choose the hayward campus? Not really sure what the difference between the two campuses are besides location since online they said both campus would graduate around the same time. kinda new to all this. Also, anyone know if we have to attend both the transfer student orientation along with the mandatory nursing orientation? or just the latter? Congrats again to everyone!

Hollie18, I am so impressed by Sac States 2 year program and excellent NCLEX scores, I'm considering opting out of CSUEB in order to attend Sac State in Spring 18. I did speak with a Nursing dept. front desk worker who mentioned that the admissions criteria will be changing for Fall 18' applicants. I still cant get over how excellent Sac States program is. I will easily call it the best program in the state. Public or Private. 150 ppl test NCLEX a year, above 95% pass for the last 5 years. 2 year program to boot. AND winter break and long summer break. It's almost too good to be true IMO.

Hey everyone, just wanted to contribute my stats! I'm currently finishing my second year as "Pre-Nursing" at East Bay. I submitted my application to EB's Pre-Licensure Program last fall, and just received and accepted my offer of admission email this morning, with a preference for the Hayward campus.

4.0 gpa in prereqs

93 on ATI TEAS

Native CSUEB student

No language/HC worker experience

Congrats to everyone who got accepted too!

The school is fiercely competitive, more so than probably any other school I've seen. The students that are getting in already show they are well prepared for the programs rigerous academic schedule. Could that be why their pass rate is so high? The program is shorter, but we at EB are getting two full semesters of preceptorship, I assume Sac does not do that with their program. Though the idea of 4 semesters is appealing, those hours we spend in preceptorship will count as hours of "experience".

Sac State is a great school and they do a lot with UC Davis which enhances the program. For me, Sac is too far since I have a family and I live near Concord, otherwise I'd apply there, too. But I do like the idea of the final year being a preceptorship. For programs that don't offer preceptorships, you have to pay for them, which can cost a few thousand dollars. In that respect, it's nice to have it included in the program. Most of the advice I get from nurses is to make connections during your preceptorship which helps you to get a job when you're done. For me, having the clinicals and preceptorships in the East Bay will be ideal since this is the area where I want to work afterwards. A friend of mine who acts as a nurse preceptor for CSUEB students said that the instructors are very good and the students have excellent skills, more than some of the other schools in the area. I was accepted to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN program, but am opting for CSUEB because I want to get more clinical experience (not to mention the difference in tuition!!). I'd rather go at a slower pace, more practice so I'm better prepared, and have more time to make connections. The pass rates could be higher, but I'm hoping individual preparation for the boards can make up the difference, as well as getting advice from my friends who take the test before I do ;)

There are pros and cons for being done early. The pool of applicants for this year seems high quality and there are so many qualified candidates. I'm feel so lucky to have made it into the program. I wish best of luck for the rest who are waiting.

Thanks for the responses. I did not know that Sac State did not have preceptorship included. That's a make or break issue for me right there. Considering I don't have any formidable HC experience I think I will need a preceptorship. And as far as NCLEX being lower at CSUEB, 85% is still a good rate and in no way worries me about passing, but >95% for 5 years straight is just outstanding. Gotta tip my hat to that. And the caliber of students selected probably has something to do with it. BUT SFSU is probably just as competitive and their scores do not reflect the same type of excellence.

@truebluefoo pretty sure SFSU also doesn't have a preceptorship.

Hello everyone! Congrats to everyone accepted & for those waitlisted, I wish you the best of luck & stay hopeful! I was accepted into EB's program and my stats were 90 on the TEAS, 900 experience hours, 2nd language, and I'm not sure what my GPA was exactly but I had one B in Anatomy so I think it was around a 3.8 or 3.9. I am also waitlisted at #19 for Sac State's program so if I get in, I will go there (yay for those on the waitlist at EB because you can take my spot!). But for now, I will accept my admission to EB just to be safe but I had a question for the 2 campuses. I'm from Sac so I don't know the area, what is the difference between the Hayward & Concord campus? Are the classes all the same? If someone who knows could let me know that would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, I've done some research and Concord Campus is a much smaller campus, so I'm assuming having access to Campus resources wil be more limited and if you plan to play sports you probably want Hayward. Concord IMO is a bit less grungy than Hayward as a city, but thats just my own biased opinion based on little evidence. I've spent quite a bit of time in Concord and none at all in Hayward. Also, Concord will do clinicals at hospitals closer to that campus and similarly with Hayward. Both class sizes are the exact same, 62 students each, and the 2.5 year roadmaps are the same and can be found online. CSUEB online states that Concord is a cohort style format meaning you will attend the same classes with same students for your entire time. Hayward I'm assuming offers more scheduling variety for classes. And I think that's about all I got for ya.
