Failing nursing student seeking advice

Is there a reason they were requiring you to get straight A's? That seems kind of severe....

Apparently, getting straight A's will be enough to raise my GPA to 2.5 in the nursing program. The college believes its a student responsibility to keep track of their gpa. I passed all my classes, so I thought I was ok, but apparently meeting a "C" grade is not enough.

I'm in the 4th semester of a 5 semster BSN program. I have passed all my classes with B's or C's. The beginning of this semster the CON told me I had to get straight A's this semester to continue on in the program. The semester is almost done and I don't have straight A's. I don't know what to do. I know that there is nothing else I want to do in life but a be a nurse. If I fail, I have 50k in student loans that will start collecting and I cannot afford to start over in a new program. Any advice??

If the semester's almost done and you KNOW you can't get the A's that they require of you then I guess I'd start trying to figure out how to recover.

1) Personally, I'd go to each teacher and directly ask if there's anything you can do at this point (it may be too late, though). Who knows, they may take pity upon you and give you a chance to ace the final for an A in the class (happened to me once way back in the day).

2) Do you qualify for an LVN license? Could you at least go to an LVN program?

3) Maybe become a CNA and work for awhile and then see about school again.

4) Check with the ASN programs and see if you could get in and then test out of some classes.

You're in a tough spot but keep your chin up and figure something out.

Just just ridicules. You had no warning of this? I am so sorry that you have to go through this!

Can you sit down with someone from the CON and talk about your options? Is there anything else? Keep us updated!

1. To challenge the NCLEX-PN the director of the program has to sign a waiver to the board of nursing stating that you are currently in a program and have completed X amount of semester

2. Because of my probationary period faculty members are not allowed to speak to me on a personal level and I am directed to the Undergraduate Program director

3. My only option is to petition this problem. I have anticipated this loss that I no longer know how to convince the college to allow me to continue. I know the college is concerned with NCLEX passing rates and that would be an argument on the colleges behalf- if I barely passed nursing school, how will I perform on the NCLEX.

I just want to thank everyone for their replies. Obviously, they're will be no resolutions till final grades are posted.

This whole situation sounds unpleasant to say the least. While I urge you to do your best until the bitter end, you should also devote thought and effort to your future since it is apparent you won't be continuing at that school short of a minor miracle. Pursue the LPN. Your school administrators should not be averse to you going this route to be able to earn a living. Plead with them that you need to work and need to get that LPN license to do so. With an LPN license in hand, you may find it a lot easier to enter another program. Good luck.

Do you need a 2.5 in just your nursing classes or your nursing classes + other college classes? Ours is total of all college classes ever taken. If it's the way mine is, you could take some classes that are easy A's (easier than nursing classes anyway) like interpersonal communication over the summer??
