Failing the NCLEX for the 2nd time

Nursing Students NCLEX

Where do you go from two failures?? I'm completely numb.. I've worked sooo hard to get here and to fail twice.. It's so hard to be positive I need help and encouragement.. I know I can do it but I don't even want to.. I guess I would like to know what repeat test takers have used to study the second and third time around.. I've used Kaplan and I will not be using it again just for the content review part and I'm thinking about using NCSBN review.. I don't know where to go from here I've made flash cards I really tried. I'm taking off a month before my exam so I can really focus! I feel like such a disappointment my co workers my family and my friends are soo supportive and was completely rooting for me. When I asked for time off people worked for me so that I could study..

Some back history I went to school in New Mexico I actually lived there for the past six years.. After I graduated nursing school in may I came back home.. I have a 5 year old son that was staying with my mother while I was in nursing school.. So now I'm back with all of my family nd friends nd it's a major distraction so the first time I tested I got 75 questions which was understandable I wasn't ready at all.. This last time I received the entire test.. During this time I was moving into my first home.. Which is a process in itself. I'm aware that I've had a lot going on and that probably contributed to a lot of me not passing. But I'm lost on picking up the pieces.

I used NCSBN for my first attempt and failed with 265Q. This time I am using Kaplan review on demand. I really liked NCSBN but I feel the Kaplan may better help me with strategies. I am also using the nclex mastery app and I will be looking through my Lacharity book again. I feel like preparing for the second attempt is more stressful than the first. We made it through nursing school and we can pass nclex. Just have to keep studying and remain confident. WE WILL BE RN's

I'm sorry. I can imagine how you are feeling. I just failed NCLEX last Friday. I did 265 questions, it was horrible. Toooo many meds. Many SATA and priorities questions. I cried Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. Most of my classmates have passed the exam, so I felt like a failure. But, I realized that this was only an experience. I used Kaplan, scoring in the 50's and 60's, I also did Hurst. I read the Kaplan content guide but I feel it didn't help me. So, I will start this week reading Saunders. It was a horrible experience

Thanks today is much better I've prayed and god has this it isn't time now but I will be an RN. I didn't spend the last two years of my life going through nursing for nothing we have this and we can do it!! ;)

Check your performance reports and see what your weaknesses are before studying again.

To add: start to understand the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:

1. Safe, effective care;

2.Health promotion;

3.Physiological Integrity;

4.Psychosocial integrity

Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; the question may be Respiratory related-but is it a Health Promotion or a Safety, or a Physiological or a Psychosocial one? Would you know the difference and choose the BEST answer?

Once one understands the concepts of NCLEX, they can answer the questions successfully.

Thank you for you advice! I really appreciate it. How long it takes to receive the CPR?

One thing I didn't mention is that I went to sleep at 2 am to wake up at 5 am bc mg exam was scheduled at 8 am. I think that didn't help. So, next time I won't study the day before and I will go to bed early and maybe to schedule the appointment in the afternoon since I'm an afternoon person. I think I did many mistakes that didn't help me!

How can I train to answer appropriately to this nclex world, any way to improve the critical thinking skills they mention all the times

I won't say you can "train" to appropriately answer the questions; however, learning how to appropriately answer questions relies on appropriate old fashioned reading comprehensive reading; breaking a habit of "reading into" questions does help; also learning key words helps, but knowing what the question is asking you before looking at the answers is a good tool before looking at the options.

whats your opinion about kaplan Review and their Qbank, they make u squeeze your brain , sometimes you have no clue about what they ask about even knowing the content , I am making some few improvement to those q bank scoring 60, 75 and sometimes as low as 46 , I failed first time after 6 h 211 questions i need to pass my second chance ,

Personally, I only used the Kaplan book for review and questions in the book and CD; I used NCSBN and Saunders review for question content. The Saunders flash cards that I used had questions broken down according the four concepts of NCLEX.

I personally didn't study content :no: ; unless it was a quick refresher if I know I had challenges from the subject from nursing school; otherwise I studied according to the concepts of NCLEX, and focused on those questions I had difficulty with, depending on the concept, regardless of source.

Old Fashion reading , Reading into question , Key words it sound abstract for me , I am sorry I was not born in USA , I am a little confuse or maybe my cultural background interfere with that thinking behavior i am overwhelm in content review , I need reliable strategies for break down questions i have many examples where kaplan is lets say ambiguous in rationals , its confusing for me , and the probe is that i run out of time , computer defeat me by time , but could determine my place ,,,,,, that sucks and i a here looking for clues to pass , this forum is amazing and people here too and helpful fulfilled of positive energy , Thanks all for comments and collaboration ,
