thanks to all the non-judgemental replies... to all the others get bent... and no im not addicted... and in another 20yrs all of this wont matter... weed will be legal by then... we just have to wait on a few more old conservatives to die off

I try to give posters the benefit of the doubt, but yikes....

It's illegal right now, and you have to admit it was a bone-headed move. Right?

Still stoned when you wrote this??? It's not about judgement- it's about being legal. If anybody knows of an impaired nurse, they can lose their license if they don't report it, employed or not. It shows the effects of MJ that you think this is ok :D Maybe try working at a head shop :D

Specializes in A little bit of this and that.

People need to stop being so harsh on the dude, he wasn't even working first of all.

Second I'm sure 95% of the people so quick to pass judgement have done something in the past that can be put in the statement,"I wouldn't want somebody that does *insert your lapse in integrity/judgement/common sense here* taking care of my family members."

I know a few nurses who smoke(not on work days) and have earned nurse of the month and/or much praise from patients/supervisors.

To OP, good luck with the board.

I'm curious to know if they test nurses for anti-depressants or other types of medications that could interfere with working with patients.

This is most definitely an infringement upon your rights as a person, and as long as you aren't actively intoxicated when you are at work I don't feel it should be an issue. What you do on your private time shouldn't be a source of firing.

It's too bad the majority of the US has been brainwashed to believe that M.J. (not Michael Jackson) is bad for you and will lead straight to heroin abuse. This is mainly due to the conservative agenda which is uneducated and uninformed on this specific topic.

I'm sorry to hear the news, I hope everything works out!

Show me some research on the wonderful aspects of MJ that isn't written by a pot smoker ... :D THC can be beneficial- and is available in pharmaceutical grade product. Ever watch someone come off of pot? Talk about dumb as rocks (talking about regular users). It's not all "conservative agenda", it's experience with druggies :D

Good luck with that Rowdee.

Well, GOOD FOR THEM :D - Pot stays in the system for a while. I don't want an impaired (by legal definition- not the 'informed' opinion of a pot smoker) to take care of me or my family. Reaction time and memory are impaired - even the pro-pot websites talk about this :D

As do legit addiction sites:

He posted here for support.....not to be attacked. I really think it there would be MANY suprises if a full nursing staff had to have a "random" drug screen...all at the same time. I bet there would be some interesting results.....esp if alcohol were also being screened for.

I am NOT saying I condone the use of an illegal substance. I am real tho.

 So working impaired is ok because it isn't uncommon???

I would report an impaired nurse in a heartbeat if they walked into my room- and don't tell me it's impossible to tell-- sometimes, yes- but chronic users are dull witted, pupils look abnormal, speech is slow, concentration is effected, etc...

are you sure you smoked it, or was it second hand smoke?

A quantitative (vs qualitative) drug screen will help deal with that :) Employers aren't that stupid :D At least most !!

For all the kiddos posting. What's real is nobody who will give you a job cares about your philosophy about recreational anything. You can pout around about it, but your are just always gonna be **** outta luck. Now that is real.
