Failed NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello I was just wondering if anyone is on the same boat as I am.

I was educated in Canada and took the CRNE and failed it. I am few points away from passing it. After few months NCLEX came to Canada and took the NCLEX with the thought of maybe I can wing it to pass it. It was a huge mistake !!! I studied with a friend who was also in the same situation as I am right now. Learned lots that the approach I did was way off on how to approach the questions !!!. We decided to study together and took Hurst Review and after our third try, she passed and I didn't. In Canada, we are only allowed to take 3 attempts and thats it. I have applied in Arizona, awaiting for my credentials to be evaluated, hoping that I will be allowed to site the NCLEX again with unlimited attempts.

Any thoughts, advices or anybody who have already exhaust their max attempts and going on the same process as I am.

Thanks

I agree that the Canadian 2015 BScN grads were caught in the transition and the outcome was significantly decreased pass rates for NCLEX.

I think it would be possible for the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) to do a retrospective study that assessed unsafe practice of nurses who took more than three attempts to pass the CRNE because in the past CNO allowed six attempts to pass the CRNE.

Really? Dishes. I didn't know that. I don't think thats going to happen anytime soon. All things takes time and 1 year is just too short to tell that Canadians is not really doing well with NCLEX.

If I have to reflect back on my previous scores with CRNE and my first attempt of NCLEX with no much preparation, I think I am there but not quite yet. With the last attempt, I got all the 265 questions showing that the computer can't determine if I am dumb enough not to know such things. :)

IN is one state where in order to be licensed you must have a license in your country of education. It varies unlike Canada. Many states you don't allow unlimited attempts. Three fails and refresher required. Many also limit time post graduation.

AZBoN used to require a SSN to get an ATT

I finished my Physical Therapy in South Korea in 2005 and able to get a licensed there. I passed my licensure in Canada by passing BOTH the Written and Clinical Components. I passed my NPTE in USA just recently. All in first try. I took my last RN attempt seriously but failed it. I guess thats disturbing that I can't pass my NCLEX.

Is South Korea your country of origin? Are you a Canadian citizen? If you plan to work in the US as either a nurse or physical therapist, Canadian citizenship is listed as a requirement to qualify for a TN visa.

Yes to both. I am a Canadian Citizen. Worked as a Physiotherapist here for the last 10 years. Worked in the hospital and private clinic.

Thanks Dishes for the info. I am aware that I can avail the TN1 as well as H1B visa.

H1B visa is intended for experienced specialist nurses. Plus expensive for the employer who must pay all costs. The NAFTA TN visa is much simpler overall and only costs the employer a written letter offer of employment.

A majority of Koreans and Filipinos that I do know goes for H1B Visa. As a matter of fact, a lot of them are on that visa right now - some families and friends. I have heard that nurses applying for H1B are of different story. Its tighter on that end. Either way, whatever works and will speed up the process. Thank you for that info.

I have already contacted O GradyPeyton, Avant and OMS last year with regards to my Physical Therapy. They have sent me the contract, job assignment, etc. and had mentioned to me the TN1 visa. I am sure once I sorted out my nursing dilemma then they can still help me find my way in for a nursing job. For now, I am just taking one step at a time by getting into Az BON to get the eligibility.

blackbee, do you recall if you 'read into' any of the questions during the CRNE and NCLEX exams? People who have experience working in healthcare can be prone to reading into the exam questions more so than people who have never worked in healthcare.

Honestly, I don't know Dishes. I don't want to blame "the reading into part" for the failures of my exams. But I have heard from other people that working in the real world can affect your judgement when picking the answers in the exams. I did recall that I picked up answers based on what I have done when I was on the floor working as a GN on my first NCLEX. Big mistake !!! I started working as undergrad UNE on my second year in long term care, to surgical ward, to medical unit to oncology to ER. I thought with that experience prior to writing CRNE and NCLEX will make a difference. Its good on resume but not good on your critical thinking skills in your NCLEX/CRNE hospital.

When I did HURST. They specifically said DO NOT mix up the real world hospital with NCLEX hospital. When I took the 2nd NCLEX, I did all the strategy of eliminating the incorrect ones, thinking the perfect NCLEX hospital, taking my time to answer each question, etc. but still end up on a 265 questions of FAIL. Also, english is my second language which some people have said non english speakers tend to read into the questions. For that, I really don't know. I can't just blame something because it didn't end up the way I wanted.

I am still hoping for a positive outcome on my nursing part. I did some reflection on whether nursing is too hard for me to comprehend on my level. I finished PT and passed all the required licensures locally and abroad. If I have to compare it with nursing its just as almost as tough. In fact, PT is now even upgrading to Doctor of Physical Therapy in the USA and in Canada it is a Masters Program with Written and Clinical components. 2 exams to get licensure. It is not easy to do OSCE in PT. I guess I am only good with Orthopaedics but not on Fluid Electrolytes.

Yes, don't give up I had to go to alternate state as well to test. And today I received another no pass :( but my results indicate I am close in all areas although it doesn't take away from continuing to figure out what I am doing wrong. It's so frustrating but I'm not giving up I will continue to go forth and keep studying different methods to pass. So here's to another attempt!! Good luck to you and do not give up!! I did although review my content on you tube to refresh my memory since I am a visual learner and I did learn a lot new content that I didn't get in Nursing school now I just have to apply it to questions. Do not let anyone discourage you just keep trying to figure out what your doing wrong and go from there. Best of luck to you and to me :) !!! We got this eventually!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Nrs4lyf. I don't get discourage easily. Most people who gives out strong negative opinions in forums such like this had not progressed past a high school mentality. They were unable and unwilling to see more than their own points of view. Although a more mature person could have expressed an opinion calmly and reasonably, this was clearly beyond their capabilities. Instead, they simply lashed out rudely, bashing us for asking such a thing, and painting us some kind of evil witch trying to suck information from a poor soul.

Public forums are filled with people who thrive on conflict. I just try to ignore them, they're doing it for attention. I am sure they'll go elsewhere to get it (Possibly to a local school and running amok around innocent people; but thats a social problem Im not going to address here).

Got an opinion to share in a forum? Great! lots of forum participants are looking for feedback from people with more experience or knowledge on the TOPIC. When they start giving unverified information it starts to stray, and can go anywhere. How useful is that? Maybe to that person who started giving an opinion.

My parents taught me that if I don't have anything to say nice to a person, don't say anything at all. Why can't forum participants remember this "Silver Rule" They're obviously forgotten the Golden Rule, too.

Anyway, what state you in right now? Goodluck too.

Live in Texas and had to test out of New York!! I have to admit I'm the over analyzer I break questions down and think too far into them I go real deep lol then I get it wrong. I've been a practicing LVN for about 8 years now. It's not that I don't know the "Basics" it's simply the way they ask the questions I have a problem with smh :( I always get it down to two but then my anxiety kicks in :(

At least you know you are your own worst enemy. (Aren't we all) Try looking at test taking strategies or PDA of prioritization/delegation as an RN is a week area you say you're confident & proficient in the content material. Kaplan & PDA are good for test taking strategies
