Failed NCLEX RN - seeking advice

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi Everyone! Just took and failed my first NCLEX-RN. (Hopefully my last!) I hope to retake it in September/October. Any idea what near the passing standard means on all content areas?! How near? I feel like I don't have clue and that I over studied. Is that possible? The two days before the exam, when answering questions, I felt as if I didn't get it! (I did great in the RN program and I passed my LPN boards a few years back.) It didn't help that I had a migraine, but I figured I could do it and just over come the discomfort.

I am going back to my original plan and taking a four day course with Kaplan. Anyone have experience with the Kaplan classroom course? I plan to take this at least 4 weeks before I take my exam. (That was the only class available.)

I hope to take my boards again at the end of September or should I just throw in the towel?

Thanks for your responses. I'm feeling bad and still have this migraine!

No, don't throw in the towel!. I just failed nclex also. Very depressing!! And the thought of studying again,,,but I have started and mailed my fees. Waiting for new att. Still not ready to retake but am studying with vati with an instructor who will tell me when my scores are high enough. I also have Kaplan.

Don't get too caught up with the analysis of your previous failure. Instead study for your restest as if you had never tested in the past. That way you are more assured that your brain isn't tricking you into glossing over subjects that you "think" you already know.

Maju ~ I'm sorry to hear you did not pass. To beat the blues, I'm just going to let them run their course along with this migraine. (I'm wearing sunglasses in my house, it hurts so bad.) To beat the feeling of studying all over again, I'm just going to stick to my current studying pattern. I picked up a few ideas from this site such as memorizing one lab a day (even though I know my labs, I can keep them in my head and not forget them) and doing 75 questions a day working up to 265. I'm also going to study a medication group a day and know those down. I'm going to take my Kaplans course and get the Saunders book. (I have the Davis'. The CD exam with hints were not great, albeit, very confusing. Chucking that book.) I hope you pass this next time coming up! Keep me posted and good luck to you!

Caliotter ~ Thank you for the advice. I agree with just dumping out what my brain has in it and starting fresh. That is what I am doing this morning. You're right about stuff I think I already know. I have my med/surg book that I reference for stuff and keeping with the Kaplans and Saunders and that's it. I had too many different types of study guides (about 5 in all!) and approaches and they all got jumbled up!

Thank you both! Hope you have a great day!

Alex
