Failed NCLEX- PN last week.. needing HELP PLEASE!

Published

Well, I'm sure if you've read any of these type of posts, you know that I'm extremely disappointed in myself. I took the NCLEX on Tuesday and FAILED. I am very upset about this considering that I studied for 5-7 hours 5 days a week for 2 months. I used the Saunders NCLEX review and also took a review course and the HESI exam. I felt very prepared and comfortable taking the NCLEX. I was very shocked when I found out that I did not pass. When studying I would read, make notes, flash cards, many online quizes, and also the quizes in the book and on the CD.

I feel very lost as to where to begin to start studying again. I have really bad test anxiety, and now I feel like I have lost all confidence in my test taking abilities. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What books or study material do you feel helped you best prepare for the NCLEX?

I have taken the Nclex PN and failed a few months ago... I am really discouraged and have been studying daily using Saunders and ATI. I have rescheduled to take the test again next month. Maybe we can help each other!!!

Even the ones that passed can help you guys as well. do saunders for content and kaplan for questions.

Do you have an idea of which areas you were weak on?

when I got my results in I found out that I got near passing on every section but basic care :(

Don't be discouraged its hard but its not impossible!

you're right! I just find myself in ups and downs.. especially when classmates ask me how I did.. and I'm the only one in my class that has not passed so far :( I am just so disappointed...

Lots of great suggestions for studying here. The problem is everyone learns differently. What works for one student may not work for another student. Recommendations for certain books may make the difference for one student but may not for another student. Carefully pick and choose your materials to study from based on how it feels to you. Go to a bookstore and look at the different study guides that are available.

Take an actual practice test to see where your weaknesses are and what you need to focus more on. Learning how to answer the different types of questions is key. Practicing application questions is also key. Good luck!

the problem I'm having now is finding a book.. I live in Arkansas so the only book store we have in my town is a Books-a-Million. I went there today and they do not have any testing material or study guides for LPN's only RN. so looks like I'll be having to purchase a book online.. any suggestions on books? I am pretty good on content... I feel comfortable with that... it's the questions I have trouble with... applying the knowledge to the question is what gets me.

I'm just trying to make sure I'm looking for the right Kaplan book.. the one I found is called NCLEX PN 2012-2013. it was only $14 online.. that seemed kinda cheap to me- guess I just wanted to make sure that was the right book that everyone seems to be raving about...

I know how you feel! I just sent off my application to retest and paid for my NCLEX today. I thought I would feel better about it, but actually... I feel more upset because I didn't ever think I'd be having to retest. I'm sorry for the dumb question, but what's ATI? I'd love to partner up and study somehow. I feel I learn so much from other people!

ATI = http://www.atitesting.com its another source that some school uses throughout their program.

Just remember that the NCLEX is an application based test. You already have all the knowledge you just need. Just take your time on the questions and apply it. Figure out what the question is asking and what it expects you to do. Prioritize, rember ABCs or the heirachy of needs and that Safety always comes first. Pharmacology, know the prefixes and suffixes of major groups and their nursing considerations. (Parins, such as heparin, you need to watch for bleeding. Check lab values prior to administering to make sure they are not at risk) You can do it just dont get discouraged! Good Luck and dont give up!!

Look up exam cram on-line the cheat sheet is posted as well as the chapter on burns. See if you like it before you order it. Thats what I did as I thought it was very good.

Oh yes I forgot I had exam cram too. I think those questions are very close to true NCLEX questions.

Hi did you end up passing? What did you use to study?

Hello-I just took my exam today and got the good pop up at PVT :woot: I hope its real.

2 weeks ago i saw your post (this post) I printed it because it is very thorough, since i didn't have much time left before my test i just had to study the Prioritization and delegation book plus the exam cram (take note: I had this book for awhile and didn't open it until i read your post :roflmao:) I was taking the kaplan 2 days course and almost done with my q banks at that time, so the remaining 2 weeks was basically P&D and exam cram...My average grade for exam cram was 73% and the kaplan readiness was 70%. Anyway....thank you for your post....i haven't gotten my result yet but i got a good pop up so i'm crossing fingers....
