Failed NCLEX & Need Help!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi,

I just found out yesterday that I failed the NCLEX. I took 230 questions, so I think I was probably on the cusp the whole time. I don't think any amount of studying could have prepared me for it. The whole test was prioritizing with meds I have never heard of. I got an A+ in Pharm. and had no clue what they were. I am so burnt out from school as it is that I don't know if I can go through this again. I had 2 jobs lined up, waiting on my results...now they are gone! I don't even know what the next step is. I looked on the Pearson website and can't find any info. on second tests. What do I do to get a new date? Do I need to go back to my school and get a new ATT? Also, do I receive some sort of letter from Pearson saying what my "score" was? Any info. anyone can give would be helpful...Thanks.

sorry you didn't pass, you need to reapply to BON to resit the exam and then book with pearsonvue. You used to get some feed back on where you need to study more

I'm so sorry to hear the news. That is heartbreaking. Don't give up! I know you're exhausted but it's worth it. You've worked too hard to let one insane test to get in the way of your dream.

I copied and pasted this from the NCSBN's website:

https://www.ncsbn.org/Youve_Completed_2007.pdf

What if I did not pass?

Candidates who do not pass the NCLEX examination

receive a Candidate Performance Report,

which shows their areas of strength and weakness

in the content areas of the NCLEX-RN® Test Plan

or NCLEX-PN® Test Plan (as appropriate). This is

provided to help candidates prepare for their next

examination.

Candidates must wait a minimum of 45 or 90 days

between each examination. The determination of

the frequency with which a candidate may retake

the exam is established by each individual board of

nursing and NCSBN policy.

This is an important policy that allows NCSBN to

be certain all candidates receive a valid NCLEX

examination.

Contact your board of nursing to obtain the necessary

forms and information to reregister at any time.

However, once declared eligible by your board of

nursing, your Authorization to Test (ATT) will not

be valid until the required 45 or 90 days between

examinations elapses.

Have you looked on your BON's website for information on how to reapply? Try to reapply and get your new ATT asap while the info is still fresh in your mind.

My heart breaks for you. Get you a Saunders NCLEX book, and when you retake it, make sure you look at all the answers and look for the words that would make an answer wrong, even if you dont know what they are talking about, theres usually something that makes something seem not quite right. (if that makes sense) Sometimes process of elimination is all ya have to go on. Hang in there and best of luck. By the way...during nursing school, I got my first ever tattoo..it says "This too shall pass"....keep that in mind!!!

your adviced helped me i take mine on 7/17 ... eeek i'm scared .. yet trying to be positive

Sweetie, don't feel bad, and don't feel stupid!! There are more people then you realize who fail the NCLEX the first round. I failed it last month and I've just now got my head back in the right place to start studing again. What you need to do is get another application in and start hitting the books. Pick your head up and don't even think about the first round on the NCLEX. Look, people like me and you are going to be the best nurses ever because we had to work extra hard for our dream. Put it in God's hands and he will take it from there!! Good Luck!:kiss

Thanks for your kinds words...I really appreciate it.

I am sorry to hear about the NCLEX. Take some time off away from the books. At least a week to regroup and get your head together. When I thought I had failed my test I was frantic. Then on my way home from work, two days later, I felt really relaxed and was making a plan on how I was going to study. I had made peace with the fact that I had failed (I still did not know that I had passed) and was ready to move on to retake the test.

One suggestion about the meds. I only knew certain meds not all meds because it is too many to memorize. The meds from your final semester should still be fresh. Review those and make sure that you know those. Cardiac, Endocrine, Renal, Respiratory.

When taking the NCLEX, read the drug name and see if you can identify which system it came from (ex. Endocrine... Levothyroxine). Determine what the question is asking about that drug (ex. teaching about Levothyroxine). Read your answers and remember what that drug does to the client. Sometimes if you can't figure out which answer is correct, look at your four choices and see which answer is going to be the most dangerous for the client (ex. a. nausea, b. vomiting, c. hypotension, and d. blurred vision). Another thing I picked up about medications from Kaplan. When they ask about common side effects, it is usually nausea, vomiting, headaches. Less common and more severe is bronchospasms, hypotension, tachycardia, bradycardia, respiratory depression. If see a choice like that most of the time it is the answer.

Hope I have been of some help. Good luck!!!
