I am an LPN pursuing RN .I failed med surg1 by 1 point. This just shook my confidence totally. I am depressed more than ever and ashamed of myself. I have changed my answers on final exam by doing second guessing. I m thinking whether should i repeat or move to a new school and start over. In my school, you are allowed to repeat only once. This is my first med surg class and i have 3 more classes to be done with RN school. I m so scared of further failures as this has put me down . Should i start at a new school or repeat this class over. The thing that scares me is if I ever fail again a class in future , i could be dismissed from program and all that hard money goes down the drain. i never failed a class in lpn school and i was an average student barely passing every nursing class though. Experienced nurses or student can you give some thoughts .

Well, if you switch schools without trying again, you throw that money down the drain anyway.
Time to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back to it!

I've been in your shoes once before. The way my nursing program works, you have to get a certain percentage (77%) in your exam averages in order to get everything else involved in the course added onto your grade (homework, participation, etc.). I ended up achieving a 76.5% on my exams as they had recently changed the whole program around in terms of order of courses. Needless to say, they wouldn't round me to a 77% to pass the course. So I know how you must be feeling right now. I'm supposed to be graduating this semester, but because of this error, I had to be left back a year because of how the program works.
The thing that helped me through it is that I can take this experience and just learn from my mistakes. Like you, I tend to second guess my answers causing them to be wrong in the end. I know you must be feeling sad and depressed like I was, but just think of how much more experience you'll gain -- you already know all of this material so when you retake the course, you'll have that to your advantage. Just like SoldierNurse22 said, you gotta just get right back into the game! You'll see, it'll end up working out in the end. Don't let this deter you from nursing overall or your school. You can do this! :)
Jen 2010 thats unfortunate . I know my program requires 78 percent to pass. i got a plain 77 percent. That's the worst nightmare when you fail by 1 point or .5 point. sorry. Changing grading pattern middle of semester is not fair. Thank you for your kind words. from now on no more second guess and changing of answers. I m pray to go through this difficult times and let god give the guidance to pick up right answers. To soldier nurse, thank you for your encouraging words.
