My school also won't round up AT ALL. So where I am they certainly can fail students on tenths of a point.
I can't imagine how you must feel. I'm sorry. I know a couple of people who had to repeat their first semester and they did fine second time around. You can too. I wish you the best.
YES! This is a common occurrence and definitely allowed.
I understand you feel devastated and might have a mix of emotions. *HUGS* - but if you decide to continue with this journey, I guarantee you this fall will make you stronger.
Take some time to relax but get back on your feet and evaluate WHY you failed.
Go to your professors and be open to criticism.
I wish you well!!! (:
Nursing school gets harder every semester. It has to. There is more to learn, the expectation that you will integrate what you learned last semester with what you learn now, and increase your ability to think critically with every new course.
Hard to hear, but students who are marginal in the first semester often find themselves failing in the next one, unless they find a way to really step up their games. Knowing this may help you decide to do it better next time, or decide that you should consider doing something else that isn't so demanding. Your call.
I understand how you feel, but you have to ask yourself, "If the required score to pass is 80% then how much should they give you to be "fair"". If they give you 0.52% then what about the person that fails with a solid 79% or the one with a 78% or..or...or..? If the absolute minimum score is 79.5% then that is what it is. Like others here have said, my school does not round up AT ALL so if you get a 74.9% (our minimum passing score is 75%) then you fail. That is the way the world works.

HI everyone... I just failed by first semester of nursing school and I'm devastated. A few people in my class have failed by such a small amount I don't even see how they can do this... our program requires 80% so 79.5% is the lowest you can get to pass. There are people in my class that have 79.48 and they have failed. Has this happened to anyone else? Can they even do this?
