Failed anatomy...are there other options

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey everyone I am from Los Angeles and attending lacc. So I just got my grades back I didn't do so well in anatomy I got an D. I am feeling so discouraged now because if I can't pass anatomy what makes me think I can become an Rn some day. My question is could I bridge over LVN to RN ...could I still make it as a nurse if I go down that route or just take anatomy over but that D will still be on my transcript. I just need some words of encouragement or something positive because I just feel like quitting all together.

LPN school is no picnic. You only have a couple semesters to learn a huge body of knowledge and to become a safe nurse. If anything, I got the impression that ADN programs, while more in-depth, also took things a bit slower (ie at my Schools LPN program we demonstrated how to check vital signs on day 1 then moved on after a couple hours, whereas it was explained and assumed you didn't know how to do it in the RN program). When I bridged backforthe RN program the LPNs were considered "advanced standing".

Just wanting to throw that out there in case there is an erroneous belief that LPN is somehow easier. It's shorter, but it's not easier. And the programs still require A&P, if you don't feel like you are focused enough from RN school then you're probably not ready for LPN school either. Like I said above, nothing creates an invigorated interest in school and better study habits than a couple years out in the real world working an entry level job that sucks out your soul, haha. It definitely worked for me!

I agree. I worked in the real world (corporate) for about 5 years and I knew I had to make changes and go to a different career path. I am older now (28) but I wish I got my life together earlier and just stop being scared of taking all these science classes. It's a lot of work, but its doable. don't give up!

Just not true that you can't get into a program with a retake. Talk to a counselor. Typically a retake at the same school will replace the D. If you really want this, you can make it happen.

Hi! Keep your head up. I failed anatomy with a D as well due to personal circumstances, but i retook it and ended up with an A. I just recently got into a nursing program, so don't be too discouraged!

Definitely want to second what Serhilda said. When I was 17 and didn't know what I wanted to do, and didn't know how to study, I did terribly. Like 1.9 GPA. Started LVN prereqs when I was 30 and had experienced life, and have been a straight-A student since (now in an LVN-BSN bridge). If you know you don't know how to study, work on that first. You're going to need those skills in nursing school. And stop acting like LVN school isn't going to require you to know anatomy and such, because it is. LVNs are nurses, too, and the schooling isn't some alternative that doesn't require you to learn hard things.
