Extremely tempted by large sign on bonus

Published

I just checked the website of a hospital where I used to work, and they are offering a $12,500 sign on bonus for a 2 year commitment. This hospital is one hour away from our home. They are opening up a progressive care unit, that would be just up my alley. They even have part time day positions, just what I'd want.

Even if the bonus were pro-rated, it's still tempting. We were thinking of moving closer in the that direction soon. I currently work around a half hour away from home. If I don't get that diabetic educator job, I'm going to seriously consider it. I feel like I'm in a rut and I need a change.

As long as you go into it with eyes wide open. You are apparently aware of all the pitfalls related to a bonus so it is up to you. Hope you get that other job you applied for where you are now.

Specializes in Travel Nursing, ICU, tele, etc.

Hey jls RN,

I am soooo glad that you have great options available to you. Judging by your posts, I would bet that you will make whatever decision you make work. It is fun going back to a place you've worked before, kind of like "old-home week"! Change is good. That is one of the very best things about nursing! It sounds like a very fun unit to work in as well, if you do decide to do that. Good luck to you and let us know what you decide.

:yeah::yeah::yeah: you go girl!

Two years is a big commitment.

I wouldn't want to be saddled with that obligation.

Gosh, I work at a large Dallas hospital... wonder if it's the same place? =)

1 in 3 chance it is if you count Parkland.

Specializes in LTC, Med/Surg, Peds, ICU, Tele.

I talked to HR at my old hospital and just sent in an online application. She said that, yes they work out part time positions for people, and they have days open. She said they are aiming to open the unit in November and that it is halfway between ICU and telemetry in acuity.

I also followed up on the Diabetic educator job, finally getting a return email and some encouragement to apply for that. I also did an online application for my current facility.

I'm a person who, when I feel restless must take some action in order to emotionally deal with that feeling. I need a change before I stagnate in a sea of discontent.
