I never did any extra credit, but there were times throughout the semesters where I wished I would have. When I was taking microbiology, for example, I knew it was a tough class, but decided to not do an extra credit assignment worth 25% of an exam grade (10 page paper on how a specific microbe affects a specific part of our environment/daily living or something like that). After a pretty hard 9 chapter exam, my average went from a pretty little A to an 88.something. I was fortunate enough to score well on the final exam and get my average back up to a 91.13, but I was definitely kicking myself in the head for a good while.
Except for gen-ed classes, I've never had a class with extra credit. For my pre-reqs and nursing courses, all of the instructors have said the same thing. Concentrate on the "regular work." If you can't do well in it, then you don't deserve extra credit, and if you can do well in it, then you don't need extra credit.
Quite frequently yes, it's another opportunity for me to review material I'll need to know anyway. Usually the extra credit isn't hard to complete, and in many cases even if worth only a couple points, those points can still make a difference in my end scores. I short I have nothing to lose by doing it other than a little time.

Do you guys ever take advantage of the extra credit opportunities in your classes? I do sometimes, but sometimes I just can't make myself find the motivation to do it. Especially if the class is really easy and I know that I'll be able to get an A regardless.
