Extern position at St. Joseph's

Published

Has anyone worked as a nurse extern at St. Joseph's? What was it like and what was the pay like?

I am interested to know too. I got a call to interview on Friday. Have you gotten a job there Kim or just applying? Thanks.

I have an interview there in three weeks. So I am curious as to what it is like and what the interview process is like.

All I can add is that it is a wonderful facility. Good choice to go there.

In Phoenix or Tucson? More than one St Joe's in Az...

Sorry, I forgot there was a St. Joe's in Tucson. My interview is at the one in Phoenix.

Specializes in cardiac/education.

Hey,

FYI, I am in my clinicals at St. Joe's and what I have seen/experienced at this facility are smart, NICE nurses, great teamwork, and an endless willingness to teach. It looks like a very nice place to work and even though it is eons away from my house, I am considering the drive. From everything I hear, it is an awesome facility!

Good Luck with you interviews!!;)

Specializes in NICU.

Definitely a great choice! I don't know specifics about pay, but I do know a lot of people that were externs at St. Joes in Phx that are now RNs and really love it. And if you decide to stay there and work as an RN, they have an AWESOME orientation program!

Good luck to you, let us know how it goes!

I extern on the tele unit at St. Joes and love it. The pay is $12 something an hour, but if you work nights there is a differential and weekends are also a differential. I work both so I make around $15 an hour.

Do they require you to start fulltime in the summer? Or were you able to start on the nights and weekends right away?

Specializes in Emergency Department, Neuro ICU.

For summer they require 36 hours per week, for winter break it is 72 hours for the entire break (and not to exceed 40 hours per week) and during school it is 24 hours per month min-48 hours per month max. If you are in a year round or acclerated program (as I am) then you are excluded from the summer and winter hours and only to follow school hours. Hope that helps. I was able to work right away after I went through orientation.

Thanks! That does help, because I am in an accellerated program and I found on St. Joe's website something about fulltime summer and that got me worried that it would be required.
