I have gotten an offer at every job I Have applied for in the past 2 years. I'm at just over 3 years experience now. I have only moved to one job though. I have just been burnt out on management so I'm looking around for greener grass. The issue is pay. I make $38/HR at both my current jobs and to jump to another staff job I would have to take a $8-10/HR cut at a larger hospital system as staff. I may be just hold on till I travel next summer/fall though.
When I hit the 1-year mark at my first job, I applied all over the place. I got interviews at 4 nursing homes and 0 hospitals. I took a nursing home job, which turned out to be a huge mistake. After 6 weeks of hell, I landed back at my old employer, in a different building. Unfortunately, things didn't work out.
I'm now working home health, and I like it. I'm making less than any of my previous nursing jobs, but I'm very wary of leaving. Part of me wants to move back to Boston (Hubby hates it here), find a non-nursing job to pay the bills, do flu clinics on the side, and take a refresher course when (if?) the economy picks up.
I'm an overweight, severely nearsighted asthmatic, so the military isn't an option. I've also thought of relocating again, but Hubby refuses to learn to drive, and would never agree to move to Texas or the South. Between his father's health problems (he's in the hospital again) and my mother's cancer (she just decided against another round of chemo), we're basically suck in New England.
I thought being a nurse would open doors, but they seem to close every time I turn around. Sometimes I wonder why I bothered with nursing school.

Since your so brilliant rntim49 why don't you really read my post about the pay I get offered for jobs other than management. Also, as a hiring manager, it is very hard yo fin nurses to come work in my specialty of choice. There are always job openings that actually need to be filled. I would be happy to hire any one on here if you have some cvor experience. Its not gonna happen because there are so few out there. Maybe ill type in bold with a huge font so I look more believable. LOL.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile for hospitals to train those with little or no experience in these specialty areas, rather than boast that there are too few to fill these positions. Sheesh!
Let's face it, hospitals use dimwitted excuses not to hire new nurses!!!

How are those with 1-2yrs of experience fairing when it comes to finding a new position?
I have been looking/applying for one and it seems to be the same situation as it is for new graduates.
