Hello. I have 5 yrs of NP experience and have been offered a job at a Derm clinic. They want me to work as an MA for 6 months and then train as an NP for another 6 to 12 months for $25/hr. Then I would be paid on commission and earn 22.5% of what I made for the clinic. Is this normal? If not, how were you trained and with what kind of salary. This clinic seems great but I feel like they may be xploiting me. Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm a new grad NP and most places around here will pay you the topped out RN salary while in training and until your credentials come through. I think that is around $30/hr here (we have notoriously low RN pay around here). Most orientation is about 6-8 weeks depending on the specialty.
I think $25/hr for an experienced NP for 6 months is just not acceptable to me. If I did have experience, but not in dermatology, I *might* take it for six weeks but definitely not 6 months.
As part of the training I could see them asking you to shadow an MA for a day since you will most likely be working side-by-side with them (paid at an NP rate). This may give you insight on their day-to-day responsibilities. Having said that, please do not work as an MA or work for $25.00/hr--both are ridiculous and you are worth a real NP salary.

To save money. They're hoping to rope in someone desperate enough to agree to this.
