I passed on the first try after being a LPN for >10 years. It is possible, but like Melody said, you might have to break some old habits. You also have to change your way of thinking. Here's a book that I got when I was in the program:
From LPN to RN - Bridges for Role Transitions
I found it to be very useful. Good luck to you- I do hope you will try again.
I have 30 years experience in a large teaching hospital. I memorized all thecritical elements, but I STILL HAVE TO PAY AGAIN for the cpne. Why is this
test set up to pass non-liscenced people?
The CPNE truly isn't set up to pass anyone. I hope you're successful on your next attempt! What caused you to fail? Labs? PCSs? Have you considered taking a workshop?
I was an experienced LPN too before I took CPNE. I passed first try with no repeats. I also work at a test site and I have to agree with the others who have posted, gotta change some old habits. :wink2:
Focus on your achievements rather than your failures. If you do find yourself thinking about how you failed then look at what you managed to do right and how you could correct what you did next time. :heartbeat
Do you actually have to take a workshop to pass, I'm out of funds! I still don't understand how they want you to calculate I/O's. For the paper work, if you have to revise a careplan, do you do it immediately and leave the patients room or do you do it during the evaluation phase? Also is there any good advise for someone who hasn't the slightest clue on how to write rationals? Do you take the meds in all in one cup or in seperate cups? Thanks Stacie
Stacie, I suggest you visit the EPN and ask your questions ... you will get the answers!! :)
Click on "Nursing Discussion Boards," and when it loads, click on "Associate Degree Level Nursing," then "Clinical Performance in Nursing Examination - CPNE." You'll see both the CPNE discussion board and the CPNE journal board (a great place for info on tour test site). The EPN and discussions with my peers were instrumental in helping me pass the first time!
I think the stress of the CPNE is what gets most people whether they are an experienced LPN or not. Things you normally don't forget to do like washing your hands may be forgotten because of the stress. You don't need to go to a workshop to pass. I did not take any workshops and passed first time. However, if you can get to one, I would. I think if nothing else, the workshops will give you some confidence and help you brush up on some skills you may not have done in a while. Otherwise, the EPN networking Lisa mentioned is also a good idea.
